Hanging out around a summer campfire with your best buds before waking up with the sun and going for a ski at 14,000' is exactly my idea of a good time. Heading out for more this weekend ✌🏼 #TheRoadWestTraveled @theroadwesttraveled
@duncan.mackey demonstrates that one does not, in fact, need skis to ski back to camp. A better question, however, is why Duncan felt the need to carry his skis on his pack all the way to camp, if he is so clearly capable of skiing without them?
The Summer Solsitice is here! I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been an incredible ski season (not that I am done skiing yet!) It was so awesome traveling all over Colorado and the Western U.S. this season From Jackson Hole, WY to Taos, NM and all the backcountry locations in between. I really reconnected with my love for skiing this season, discovering a greater sense of adventure and freedom in the backcountry. Thanks to everyone who made it an awesome season! Here are a few of my favorite pics from the season! Happy Summer and keep your eyes peeled of a Winter Recap video coming soon! #TheRoadWestTraveled @theroadwesttraveled
Just returned from a week of running around the San Juans. Hiking, camping, skiing, and enjoying life with @mjofkorsick @louisekorsick and @sonjybear. Here is mike booting up a couloir in the iconic Ice Lake Basin. Can't wait to get back to these mountains already. #TheRoadWestTraveled @theroadwesttraveled
Hey friends! Sorry for the delay between posts, it was for a worthwhile cause - this weekend, @duncan.mackey and I got out into the Cascades to climb Big and West Craggy Peaks, the first Hundred Highest of the season, putting me at 53/100. We had a delightful and relaxed trip, and finished with enough daylight for some ski-based tomfoolery above the hairpin at Washington Pass - lemme tell ya, it feels so so wonderful to be back in the Cascades! Looking forward to many more trips this summer!
I think I've figured it out. Why I'm stuck in this funk. I miss winter. This year it came when life wasn't so fuzzy. So I took a chance and bought a pass. I fell in love. And every ride down was like the first time.
I knew it couldn't last forever. I needed to learn to tour. And these badasses from work lent me their gear and showed me the way. But now I'm stuck again. Wenatchee isn't mine anymore. My heart longs for the next great escape.
Climbing how I love you. But you don't give me that rush. I want to be a mountaineer. I want to hike peaks and look at the world below. Then I want to ride back down on my skis.
But it's hard work hauling skis up a mountain. And I have a lot to learn about mountaineering. I only got a taste of touring in Teenaway.
This summer @morgan_ashley23 is going to teach me how to mountaineer. And maybe this time next year we'll be flying down Adams on skis instead of glissading. Today I choose the mountains that saved my soul❤️️🗻✌️️
It sure felt like summer in the valleys this weekend. But there is still snow up high to be skied. The best of both worlds this weekend. Campfires under the stars and skiing in the morning. Doesn't get much better. #TheRoadWestTraveled @theroadwesttraveled
I've always wanted to take one of those uber cool packing pictures you see all over Instagram. But I always find myself hectically packing last minute after plans go together. So this is what I ended up with. But you know what I think this is what most people's packing looks like so I'm cool with it. Enough time has passed that as we look back on this Nevada trip the bad memories of bushwhacking and struggling with heavy packs have fallen to the back of our minds. What is left are simply the fun times of sunsets, great views, and reaching the top of an aesthetic couloir with your best friends and skiing down under the strong Nevada sun. Don’t forget to watch the full video by clicking the link in our bio! #TheRoadWestTraveled
Approaching the couloir in the early morning light felt like a dream. This was the exact view I saw when I found this canyon on Google Earth, but the real thing blew that view out of the water. After a long approach into the canyon the previous day nothing felt better than lighter packs and a quick climb to the top of the line. Over Memorial Day weekend we went out in search of a proper adventure. After finding a couloir on Google Earth in the middle of a Nevada Mountain range we decided to drive 11 hours, hike for 8 hours carrying the heaviest pack I’ve ever carried and then ski the whole couloir in about 2 minutes. Then we did the whole thing in reverse. This was certainly one of the most challenging, yet rewarding trips I’ve been on. Click the link in my bio to watch how the whole trip unfolded. #TheRoadWestTraveled @theroadwesttraveled
It's a 3-Day weekend and the Colorado forecast is looking rainy, what do you do? Well we drove 11 hours to Nevada, bushwhacked for 8 hours and skied a line we spotted using Google Earth. We went out in search of a proper adventure, and you bet we found it! Click the link in our bio to see the video, more pictures, and read more about an epic long weekend! #TheRoadWestTraveled
