(20/30) Queen Elisabeth Hall, Antwerp.
A new world-class and acoustically exemplary concert hall that provides a high-profile home for the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and reinvigorates one of Antwerp’s most important cultural landmarks. The existing 1950s concert hall was always very poor acoustically and also offered a cheerless visitor experience with confused circulation. Our proposal sought to address these issues with a clear and powerful intervention. Working alongside renowned American acoustician Larry Kirkegaard, we developed an auditorium with optimum acoustic quality, whilst set within a smaller volume. This allowed us to carve out and reclaim space to create a soaring atrium and a sequence of intelligible and generous spaces, radically improving the visitor experience and enhancing the pleasure of sharing fine music #30in30
