@bigtobaccokitchen was the place I wanted to try for my birthday dinner on Friday. I’ve been watching some of their IG posts and been drooling 🤤 every time something popped up. BTK offers up an amazing full experience with unique menu options in a charming setting on George St. In Hess Village. They’ve been doing their thing for a little over a year now and based on what I just experienced, will hopefully be continuing for years to come. Let’s talk about that experience because that’s what sets BTK apart. I thought it was going to be another unique menu, queen west style restaurant where I’d get a good meal and smile afterwards. But right from the get go we were greeted by a lovely waitress who was punctual and on point. She guided me through the menu offerings and explained the best choice is family style. Basically, you get to start with biscuits, end with dessert and they cook for you from the menu and serve in a family style. The 5+ option was $50/PP got you 2 appetizers and 2 mains wedged between biscuits and dessert, if you have particular likes or dislikes you can influence them, which I did by asking to make sure the Nashville Hot Chicken was included in the offering. While perusing the menu the bartender comes by and provides you each a handle of bourbon served neat as part of the experience. A nice touch since they’re not just a kitchen but a whiskey bar too. Beet Salad with Ricotta Cheese and Kalette (grilled kale with soy chili, pear and peanuts) were the warm ups. Loved the kalette even though I hate kale...so I don’t hate kale? Beet salad was good but not bursting with flavour and had a charcoal dusting. Which made it gritty. Every time a dish came out the chef on duty would come over and present the dishes and explain each item, answering questions as I had them. The biscuits btw were warm, amazing and served with honey. Anything with honey has me gushing. Mains were Nashville Hot Chicken which had chili and honey and was incredibly tender. Delicious as advertised by everyone and the other half of the main was a striploin. Perfectly cooked and seasoned served with puréed parsnips and carrots. Fully approved with the wine selection I made. Cont
