I made some homemade honey sourdough whole-wheat bread today... gave a slice to my daughter after slathering it with butter... and guess what she did? Licked the butter off.
Some people are like that. You give them the product of thoughtful love and they want the bonus. But that's ok.
You just need to know that. Offer some cream on top of that lovingly created art. A video chat with the artist. Extra prints of the original. A package of three favorite everyday products... whatever!
A bonus is never a bad idea. Keep that in mind. 😁
Just finished making these beauties for a big order I received this morning. All pieces need to be cleaned, finished, packaged and shipped by tomorrow morning. 🙃 it's going to be a late night, as I'm right now only half way trough the process and their are still like 40 more pieces that need to be made. Luckily all necessary artworks where ready to go, otherwise this would be a mission impossible! #woopsbigorder#artbusiness#custommadejewelry#handmadejewelry#oneofakindjewelry
🤖 if there's one thing I am horrible at, it's small talk. It's a skill I never quite mastered. To me, making small talk is often not genuine and more of a formality (especially in professional settings). Ex. How are you? Weather's nice eh? How was your weekend?
The small talk questions are always the same and the delivery feels forced. It's like you are required to ask even though deep down you don't really care. I am always holy awkward during these situations and I will often answer with one word because I don't know what else to say without going too deep with the questions. 😞
Funny enough, I have the BEST conversations with taxi drivers when they're driving me home from a drunkin' night at the bar. That is because I have no filter and I ask unique questions that I would normally not ask. Instead of asking the prerequisite "How's your night". Ill ask actual questions I'm interested in knowing about the person. Most times, they love the honesty and we end up having awesome discussions...and these a complete strangers!
So all this to say...when you have the chance, be curious and ask the questions you're interested in knowing. People will surpise you.🤖
If you wanting a bit of help with the business side of your art business, this is a great book by Jason Horejs. Jason is a gallery owner in Scottsdale, Arizona Who mentored me for a while. It is always helpful to have a gallery owners perspective if you are looking to hang your work in the gallery scene.
