Since 2004, Rudolf Stingel has worked with gold colored pigment that is commonly seen in his carpet-patterned paintings. These paintings are part of his exploration of surface and materiality as well as the his attempt to render the passage of time, meaning contemporizing or immortalizing patterns from art historical movements such as Baroque and Rococo. His interest in the decorative stems from growing up in Italy and Vienna where he encountered these artistic movements. These often large gold paintings immerse the viewer with its repetitive patterns much like the wallpaper or carpets it resembles. By using gold, he makes something ordinary into an object of desire. You can find “Untitled,” 2004 @mnuchin in “Minimalism & Beyond” through October 18.
I wanted to share my new acquisition!!! A piece from Allison Zuckerman a very young artist based in New York. I find her work very fun and it reminds me of George Condo and a little of Picasso. On an interview she said: "I'm inspired by artwork that performs, excites, and entertains. My pop-surrealist work, maximalist in its presentation, in suspended between high seriousness and ridiculousness. The theatrics of feminine emotion, pushed to the brink of hyperbole, ignite my mischievous, irreverent, cannibalistic, and cynical artistic practice". #allisonzuckerman#young_art_collector#kravetswehbygallery#nycartist#nycart#youngartist
