Often times, we are judged on our position in society. People can spend an entire lifetime trying to set up a better “starting position” for children.
It’s a serious matter - especially when you have 400 years of catching up to do. I juxtaposed this harsh reality and whimsical playing cards... regardless of what “position” you play in life, you have to remember at all times you are a KING. Carrying that stature at all times. It doesn’t matter if you wear a suit daily or county orange - remember your royal roots and continue to elevate.
MICHAEL SCHUNKE: THE GLASS GOBLET, REFINED
American artist and designer, Michael Schunke (@rebeccamyersdesign), has dedicated over 25 years to the exploration and refinement of the glass goblet form. Critical of his craft, Schunke challenges the archetype and pursues the evolution of form and composition through practice, detachment and refinement. In addition to his process, Schunke will speak to his departure from traditional Venetian styles and the visual language he employs to offer a new way of seeing "parts of the whole."
11 - 12 pm FRIDAY November 3 (booth #320 )

#artisttalk at @axom_gallery tonight Digital artist Marcus Conge will deliver a lecture on his artistic process at AXOM Gallery. In “Confronting the Discomfort Within: Secrets of Survival with Marcus Conge,” he will discuss his aims to reflect the inner struggles of humanity through the use of computer-generated images. Though Conge uses a highly technical process for his artwork, much of his inspiration comes from the ordinary experiences of everyday life. Today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. axomgallery.com
@lizlenoremiller arrives today for a sort residency while she installs her upcoming exhibition #mendaciousveraciry . Through mixed media installations and works on paper Miller creates elaborate, abstract fictions that incorporate fragments of reality. Firearms, killer bees, and deadly plants are spliced with imagined forms to create sculptural interludes that are absurd, menacing, and poetic. She will be breaking from install for an #artisttalk on Tuesday 10.24. •••••

So awesome to see Aaron Paquette speak tonight! He's a wonderful storyteller and artist who also has an amazing way of phrasing life advice. I remember showing my class a YouTube video of him speaking last year and saying how lucky we were to be able to watch him without having to pay a big fee for a physical visit. But tonight I realized that YouTube cannot capture the vibrant energy of an artist who is in the same physical space as you, feeding off the energy of all those present. #aaronpaquette#artisttalk
THIS TIME NEXT WEEK!! Our Image Makers Seminar will be on next Friday at 6pm where we will be presenting on our of graduates; Tom Goldner who founded The Fox Darkroom in 2014. Tom will be discussing his exhibition "Passage" a series of hand printed, atmospheric black and white landscapes taken around the Mont Blanc regions of France, Italy and Switzerland.
The series captures a time of transition in his photographic practice.
Played around with some Fudenosuke Brush Pens from @tombowusa today. They're perfect for hand lettering or calligraphy, but I decided to take them for a spin with this pinecone sketch. The best part? I only used one pen for the whole thing! Extra-fine, fine and medium strokes—all with the hard tip pen. I'm a fan! 👊 #sponsored#tombowpro
What should I draw next? I'm thinking paperwhites or something wintery.

Great to hear Jerome Witkin speak about his career and works last night at the #newyorkacademyofart . Witkin spoke of many things, including his visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp and his observations there as well as the loss of his son. His humanity was very touching as he admitted, "I cry in front of my pictures a lot." He adamantly recommended painting from life and suggested creating a small stage upon which actors could be arranged and rearranged in various groupings so that students could experience different angles and juxtapositions, admonishing those who worked solely from photographic reference. Witkin works in a format of multiple sequential panels. Slight variations of the narrative take place as it moves from one panel to the next. Witkin explained that his choice to work this way stems both from the influence of comic book illustrations and a desire to, "locomoteur the action through space and time," reminding me of similarities with the work of Alex Kanevsky, though Witkin alters the scenario a bit each time to reflect upon multiple psychologically potent events. Theories of quantum physics become relevant here with the possibility of existing in multiple variations of the self. Though throughly preplanned, Witkin's compositions appear very impromptu and reflect an angst and drama present in the works of the German Expressionists. Witkin summed up the experience of his process as a system of call and response, stating, "The pictures make me and I follow the picture." Thanks to the @nyacademyofart for providing another enlightening artist talk. #arttalk#artisttalk#jeromewitkin#artschool#figurativeart#111franklin#artinaction#artevent#artandculture#arthistory#contemporaryart#artinspiration#artwriting#artreview#kimpowerwriter
