Pulse no. 3, 2016 by Sopheap Pich (Cambodia)
Red iron oxide, gum arabic on Arches watercolor paper
The pattern of fills and voids is like each heartbeat and breath of life, seemingly the same action but unique in its nature by the virtue of it being in the next moment.
In a slow and repetitive process that is reflective and meditative, #SopheapPich presses a stick of bamboo covered in pigment and gum arabic onto paper. This is a common theme in his work where his sculptures (not on display at the Biennale) carve 3D forms through the air with bamboo weavings. His work "responds to the cultural and political issues of Cambodian society in a refined poetic language to leave the horrors behind and find joy." #PulseNo3#vivaarteviva#labiennaledivenezia#arsenale#contemporaryart#installation#painting#artlovers#meditation#breath#pulse#heartbeat
Little break from the digital world to try new traditional techniques. This one is a mix of sketching and painting. What do you guys think?
