#Ashes , a short film by director Steve McQueen, makes you see the dichotomy of life and death in a whole new perspective, with a dual-sided screen presentation that captures vitality, fate, and memory of one's existence. One side, his life; another side, his afterlife. The narrative, an audio track heard for both sides of the presentation, unfurls his untimely death as the crosstie for both visual remarks. Can clearly see why it was praised at the 56th #VeniceBiennale .
Should not be crying among strangers at an exhibit, but I did, and I admit, I love the experience much more so for how McQueen made me feel. #latergram#artstagram#artmuseum#artinstallation#shortfilm#stevemcqueendirector#12yearsaslave
Gustave Caillebotte was born Aug. 19, 1848 #onthisday | "Boat Moored on the Seine at Argenteuil" on view in #BlochGalleriesKC .
In addition to working as a leading Impressionist painter, Gustave Caillebotte developed a serious passion for sailing. He was not only a national sailing champion, but also one of France’s leading yacht designers.
I began to dislike London at the beginning of this year. The crowds, the smells and sights began to feel too much to me, the city never sleeps and the people pack their days full, everyday. I felt like I should always be doing something, something productive, something that will further my career, something new and exciting. Half an hour staring into space was time wasted to me. I felt like a hamster on a hamster wheel, never daring to stop.
Since the beginning of this year my viewpoint has altered. Slowly falling back in love with this city I call home; the city and its vibrancy, quirks and beauties. The art galleries, museums, bookstores and landmarks becoming more familiar as time passes. I feel extremely blessed to be able to afford living here and I can't say I do my weekly shop at Fortnum & Masons but I definitely appreciate my fair share of luxuries here. I also learnt the importance of rest, adding variety to your day and allowing yourself to explore, adventure out and discover. And with so many secret gems in London, who knows what you will find?
