“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel” ~Steve Furtick
Hello there! My name is Aamina Nissar and I am a professional makeup artist & hairstylist.
In my experience as a beauty expert I've come across many women/ young girls who have trouble saying " I am beautiful"!
My first question to my clients is "how would you like your makeup?" And the immediate response I get is to cover their "flaws" and to make them look two or three shades lighter!!
It's sad how the society has defined beauty as being flawless, size zero, and fair!! I personally believe that looking good starts and ends with feeling beautiful from within. And makeup?! Make-up is simply a reflection of that beauty.
I prefer using makeup as a form of art to accentuate the best features in a person and make them feel more comfortable and confident in how they actually look than making them look similar to a photoshopped picture!! I've struggled accepting the way I look for many years in fact I still fall back into the vicious cycle sometimes.
What keeps me going is the quote I've mentioned above! When we stop comparing ourselves to someone else's idea of perfection only then we can take a look at ourselves and say "hey! Iam that perfection!"
I leave you with that thought so you can start accepting yourself and help someone who needs to hear that they are beautiful with and without makeup!
