There are some visible differences such as straighter legs, less hunched back, and torso coming through more if you look at the angle of my upper arms, but the biggest difference isn't visible: my comfort in this pose. It feels so much more accessible!

Practice done today at the very nice Yoga Studio at the Tierra Santa Healing House Spa, after teaching to a new group of inspired Yogis at the Faena Hotel, and after my three holidays off from practice. It felt GREAT till I had to start working on my backbends. Whoa! “What the hell happened today?”; I asked myself. It was not the normal tightness of having been off from practice. I knew this. Then it dawn on me that for the past couple of days all I have been thinking is to make sure I protect my heart. I guess that translated into my heart center to also physically close up my chest area like a clam, for it actually did. The mind-body connection could not have been ever so clear to me today. Moral of the story is that sometimes you’re damn if you do, and you’re damn if you don’t, so what to do? Have the humility to let go and surrender and have the faith to trust that no matter what or how much one could protect one’s heart, it all will work out for the best in the end, and if it seemed like it was not, then maybe it was a lesson passing through in the caravan of one’s life. “The Sufis have a saying: "Praise Allah, and tie your camel to a post." This brings together both parts of practice: pray, yes, but also make sure that you do what is necessary in the world.”-Jack Kornfield

Last night coming back home was pink-utiful 💕
Maybe when yoga becomes less about chasing physical sensation we can then be truly liberated. And lots of yogis can be sensation junkies. That’s not something you can see...And you have to be careful with that. Getting caught in “How deep one can go” is often related to the student’s tendency towards a need for control and even sometimes a low self-esteem or a “not good enough” mentality. Then we end up exacerbating everything we actually came to our mat to heal from. I know because I’ve been there and I get it. Yoga can easily turn into acrobatics and before we can even realize it.
But in our practice we are expressing ourselves. You could be in a headstand and feel neither pride nor any self judgement (if you are that person please let me know your magic tricks), or you could be in a headstand and secretly cheering your ego on or bashing yourself for not feeling strong. Just because something looks pretty doesn’t always mean it is healthy.
This is why to study the yoga! Sure we can start with the physical practice...Traditionally it is taught that very way, with postures given before philosophy. This is because if we are to implement any new system into our lives we need to actually feel it in our body. We can’t get too caught up in reading text either. 
Always seek balance. Know what you are doing and why, and ask yourself often if your practice is really serving your ego or your Self? 
Tough question. Sometimes tough answers. Then keep practicing. This is the work.

Monotony and Repetition, the First and Last Technique.

Monotony helps you to reduce the many to the one, and thus to clear extraneous thoughts and superficial actions from the field of your body/mind.  Repeating helps you befriend the shape by giving form, body, personality, uniqueness, and individuality to it.  Monotony is a mind and energy focuser, a simplifier that helps you target your efforts.  Engaging your body and mind in the monotonous task helps you rend the veil of illusion and see the variety and the infinite consciousness that exists in what appears to be merely doing the same thing again.

Repetition shows you there is no repetition, there is only constant change. Repetition gives you an ability to detect differences between similar things that you could not previously detect.  By repetition you learn to love what is new and different in each try. With a proper bodily orientation and a disposition of curiosity you can train your self to learn by the process of repeating-- instead of merely repeating.  To learn from repeating is not automatic it is necessary to make a vow to extract newness from sameness and then do the most routine things with attention, care, and skill—place high value on the tiniest of hatha yoga tasks.  The gestures, actions and positions that you do thousands upon thousands of times are the objects that you use to create Ekagrata or One Pointed Attention and climb the staircase of hatha yoga to the high pinnacled Raja Yoga (Royal Meditation Seat). •
Repetition and monotony are the only technique that remain when you whittle down and discard each lesser, superficial technique. The purpose of all movement, variety, and dynamism is to prepare you to invite and enjoy repetition and monotony and these prepare you to see boundless freedom and infinite possibility when you are bound up in the single meditation seat. ❤ •

Most of the time, I feel like an inch worm on the mat, working towards this or that. Much of the work is not visible and internal, and sometimes all I can do is muster the intention. But once in a while, there’s a noticeable change - a touch (toes!), some lightness (breathe!), the introduction of new postures (!!). It’s been an exciting few weeks in this regard and I can’t believe I’m working with kapotasana. If you would have told me even a few months ago I wouldn’t have believed you. Most change in life is incremental, it may be punctuated once in a while by bigger events, but requires daily commitment and effort to be sustainable. Grateful for the practice as a teacher, on and off the mat. .

Und da wir schon in Woche 3 sind, kennst du Michaela Wellers sportlichen Unterrichtsstil inklusive ungewöhnlicher Asana-Varianten für ambitionierte Yogis sicher schon. Nachdem sie in der ersten Woche deine Körpermitte fit gemacht hat, waren letzte Woche Beine und Po dran. Logisch, jetzt fehlt noch der Oberkörper! Zuerst gibt’s eine neue Warm-up-Sequenz, dann folgen Asanas, die vor allem deinen oberen Rücken, die Schultern und Arme sowie die oft vernachlässigten Handgelenke kräftigen. Und zum Schluss gibt’s einen Kopfstand light sowie Atemübungen. Ein wenig „Grundfitness“ ist für diese Klasse hilfreich, aber schließlich braucht unser Körper auch immer wieder neue Herausforderungen, um überhaupt fit zu werden. Dar la teta y tener a la bebé a upa, me han cerrado el pecho, quitándome movilidad en hombros, omoplatos y sumándole dolor de cintura 🤕.
Tengo una protusión en la quinta lumbar y es la práctica la que me ayudo a dejar atrás el dolor alargando y fortaleciendo mis músculos, dejando de compensar en las asanas con mis lumbares.
Isquiotibiales cortos, cuadriceps cortos, psoas iliaco débil...un cóctel para ponerle muuucha garra. Nada que una práctica comprometida no pueda contrarrestar, cómo verán, bajo las circunstancias que toquen (Baby Tv de fondo, bebé a cargo de la hermana de 10 años, y el padre que vuelve de trabajar y encuentra más trabajo en la casa 🤦🏽‍♀️ la gatita estaba por ahí también). I'm a bad yogi posting in Savasana.. I just couldn't contain my excitement. Today, I did my first headstand. Now it feels like anything is possible!! :) Over 1 year of Ashtanga practice, and wow does it show. Headstand was my worst enemy (along with bakasana.. we will continue to battle it out...) and I literally accepted the fact that it may not happen for 10 years, or at all. But today, it just happened. I floated right up. I overcame the fear of going upside down. These moments in yoga are why I keep practicing. It's exhilarating. Headstand was my worst enemy (along with bakasana.. we will continue to battle it out...) and I literally accepted the fact that it may not happen for 10 years, or at all. But today, it just happened. I floated right up. I overcame the fear of going upside down. These moments in yoga are why I keep practicing. It's exhilarating.
