Long Post Warning-
So today my old school Italian Uber driver named Mike asked me where I was going and I said church. He started handing me pamphlets (see pic) then asked “do they do the Eucharist?” I said No...is that catholic? The church is nondenominational (later found out that was communion). That set up his platform & he went in on all none-Catholic churches lol...mentioning the importance of absolving of sins & various beliefs of the Catholic Church. Then he mentioned Luke 49??? ••••••••••••
At this point I had 2 options- use scripture to dismantle his argument OR just LISTEN. I chose the latter, 1.b/c it was 5:45AM & my brain doesn’t work until 7am & 2. b/c he looked like Jelly from Analyze This & Jelly was good for tossin’ pep in trunks🤷🏽♀️😬😂 Then the most FASCINATING thing happened!
He started out so adamant about the traditions, then suddenly he mentioned the Holy Spirit then started talking about the problems w/the confession & who are priests to forgive sins!? And how can people call themselves Christians or Catholics & not pray for or take care of the needy?! (He lit into politicians as well ha!) And suddenly He said the ONE thing that I was trying to say but couldn’t get a word in edgewise... “ Our job is to love God and love our neighbor. All this other stuff is total bs!
God showed me in that car how people (even myself) can see all the problems w/their faith, political affiliations, culture, etc. but will defend it b/c it’s all tied to identity. Yet there are problems in ALL of these communities b/c they’re made up of HUMANS... Joe says I need a reality show b/c I can’t leave the house w/o something random happening lol but perhaps it’s all divinely orchestrated...
If through our practice we realise that each moment is new and unique then this must be true of everyone we meet in each moment. And yet we so often form or end relationships of amity or enmity based on previous experience. In some cases based on the experience of others. We like and we dislike, friend or enemy, according to the past or based on ideas of perceived personalities. Yet such personalities appear to suggest a fixed position, a way of being, but such designations do not relate to the realisation that now is the only reality we can experience. If we can accept this realisation then this leads to a unique freedom in all relationships. It leads to the potential of meeting everyone as they are now. It leads to the realisation that everyone changes constantly. That everyone is a potential friend now. The past is always gone. So when we meet a stranger or someone we have 'known' we meet them a new. Without expectation. Without storylines. Without duality. What a wonderful opportunity...
happy friday lovelies 🌞
appreciate people as they are. everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. be kind, always. remind yourself that we all have our stories, experiences, joys and pains. release your judging mind. turn people into trees. appreciate them as they are 🦋
