I think crossfit often gets a bad rap (it's too intense, dangerous, injuries, etc), but for me, it was exactly what I was looking for - increased strength, overall fitness, whole body/core toning, and muscle endurance. I was tired of having scrawny legs and no butt, which eventually led to injury as a runner. I'm impatient about many things, but when I set my mind to something, I can be persistent for a very long time (ask anyone who knows me - it's a curse, too!! 😬🙄). When I turned 45, I vowed to myself to get in the best physical condition of my life by the time I am 50. It's been 2 years of very hard work, because I had done no other form of exercise other than jogging for over 20 years - my core was soft and arms were like noodles. I'm still working at it, and to be honest, I've lost some leg muscle with my recent increase in mileage to prepare for my last marathon. But, it's kind of shocking to me to look at my top pics (before CF) and then see recent pics from this past year (lower pics). I also cut almost a minute off my average min/mile run pace, PR'd my 5K/10K/marathon, and recently came within 8 minutes of a BQ time (😩😩, so close, but not quite 😒). It's a good reminder that it doesn't matter where you start, when you start, or how you start your goals -- just GET STARTED, be patient, and persevere, because it's never too late to be a better you!! Here's to hoping I can hang in there til I'm 50 and keep making progress. 🍻🤞🏻🙏🏻🏃🏻♀️🏋🏻♀️ .

In an effort to be a more positive person, I'm trying to practice gratitude daily, even when that means finding gratitude amongst the things that aren't necessarily bright and shiny. Today, I am grateful for pain. Mental, physical, it doesn't matter, pain is a powerful compass. Too often we shy away from it but it is so crucial to listen to what it is saying and to lean in to it. Without it, how do we really know what is on the other side? Thank you pain for teaching me to dig in, go deep, acknowledge, accept, learn, listen and push through when all I want to do is hide away. Thank you for teaching me grit, perseverance, awareness and the power that comes from turning impossibles into possibles. I tried running today and completed a half mile. It started hurting a little bit so I stopped (I am not messing around this time I need to be at NO pain whatsoever before I run again). It was such a tease of a run, I have so much pent up energy being off running I'm not sure if I want to cry or go to a boxing gym 😂I suppose I'll settle for some swimming tonight. Hopefully in a week I will be 💯I know my family and friends hope that as well - they are the ones getting the short/edgy Jasmine right now😬They are probably going just as crazy as me...sorry fam!😂
