Post 24 - Auscam SAW Vest review:
I’m no stranger to PLCS (Personal Load Carrying Systems) of various sorts, be they old school webbing type (love it), assault vests or body armour and plate carrier rigs, but the Aussie SAW Vest is something else.
It was designed for mini-gun operatives, the large box style pouches being able to accommodate in the order of 200 rounds a piece give it away. I ‘understand’ that the system has been withdrawn from service (and if anyone has information on this I’d love to hear from you), but despite this, I feel that the system is sufficiently unique and flexible to have a place in civilian, para-military and plain old adventurers inventory.
Firstly, for a body worn system it has heaps of storage, and the box pouches afford much greater flexibility of use than the typical mag pouch most often found. It’s very comfortable to wear, and typically sits high, potentially above belt kit.
Finally, Auscam is just a bit cool, and I know from suppliers I speak to that it’s the go-to cammo for many Chinese for instance. On the downside, for airsofters, it’s a front clip system which does leave a vertical gap in protection down the front, which, in fairness is not dissimilar to the Viper assault vest and they are in plentiful use, very popular with cadet forces, so perhaps it’s not an issue after all?
Overall, it’s big, it’s bold, it’s different, and while it’s not my everyday vest of choice, I just really like it.
Last one for today - I promise - mail calm today turned out pretty well. But I must be spending too much time watching toddler TV, because there's a big purple bunny on this fabric. I'll call him Mim-Mim. #AUSCAM#DPCU#DPDU#GreatForKangarooPouches
