What an emotion: I just received this autobiography of the poet who singularly spoke to the fucked-up reality of our generation in the 1990s Poland, Marcin Świetlicki. "Nieprzysiadalność" is a neologism virtually impossible to translate--the state in which one cannot be sat next to. "Ja jestem w nastroju nieprzysiadalnym," as per the famous line, would be best, though extremely clumsily, translated as "I'm in the mood that makes it impossible to sit next to me." Yeah.
Dziękuję, mamo i tato! .
The first meeting between Slash and Axl came after he saw a classified ad in a newspaper called "The Recycler". It said two musicians were in search of a hard rock guitarist. He called and arranged to meet them at a house in Laurel Canyon (Los Angeles neighborhood). He appeared there and as soon as he arrived recognized Izzy (they had met before in a record store). They started talking while Axl was on the phone and apparently didn't care much about his arrival. Slash says that this encounter didn't come up to anything and that he only played with them some time later when a friend (Steven Adler) told him that Hollywood Rose was auditioning for guitarists. Meanwhile he and Steven tried to form a band and that's how they met Duff (also through an ad in the newspaper). The rest is history...
A writer whose work continues to surprise and delight readers with each new release, Karl Ove Knausgaard is a world-wide phenomenon. WINTER, the second book in his autobiographical quartet based on seasons, is an exquisitely beautiful collection of letters and meditations on life directed to his yet to be born daughter. Startling and reflective, relatable yet deeply intimate, this quartet is Knausgaard at his best, capturing a world at once mundane and sublime. Perfect for parents, children, and memoir-lovers.

‘Writing is putting one’s obsessions in order.’
Jean Grenier was born in Paris in 1898. He was to later work in Algiers, where he would become the teacher and a large source of inspiration for one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century, Albert Camus. Their bond was extremely close, with records of their correspondence present from a few days after they met in 1932, to the eve of Camus’ death in 1960. It was to him that The Rebel, or ‘L’Homme révolté’ was dedicated.
In his main work ‘Islands and other essays’, Grenier includes works such as a memoir of his old cat, which becomes a poetic and extremely touching essay on the nature of death, and an account of a string of memories from his youth that serve to illustrate and explain his fascination with ‘the void’.
His writing style possesses a simple beauty, and one can easily follow and thus deeply connect with his ideas without any elucidation needed; often meaning his works posses great sincerity that one can’t help but admire and be influenced by.
Sadly, he is not much remembered, and too few have had the pleasure of reading his works and exploring his contemplative and quiet philosophy, exploring areas as far as Wu wei and Christian mysticism later on in his life. It is evident that he followed a rather different path of ideology than Camus. However, influence is still clearly visible. Grenier writes of a patient with schizophrenia (praecox dementia) who slowly becomes inured to his situation, and ‘the announcement of a misfortune is greeted tranquilly or even with irony’. This idea of nonchalance is paramount in L’etranger, one of Camus’ most famous works; in which the opening line exudes a very similar feeling, and Meursault adopts a mindset congruent with the patient. It is also from him that Camus was so inspired to include nature as an important component in his novels, particularly L’etranger.
We owe him so much, and give him so little.
I AM DEAD INSIDE - ...K maaaybe I’m being just a little dramatic but wow rejection really makes you reevaluate ya whole damn self, I know I shouldn’t question who I am and the right guy won’t treat me like crap blah blah blah but “I’m only HUUMAAAN 🎵🙆🏾♀️” Why do I even bother going on dates with guys!! All they do is dissapoint! I literally feel so insecure right now. Isn’t it crazy how you can spend one night with someone and feel like this??? This is why I really can’t just hookup with people I get emotionally attached AF.
Me to me: Congratulations! You played yourself! -
Thank god im moving to the opposite side of the country in T-3 months!!🌇🛫🌎🛬🏙
The picture on the left led to the two on the right. That six inch scar led to a year of setbacks, brokenness, and a completely new outlook on that future. That scar led to a lot of shitty things. But that scar also led to my latest screenplay and a pilot. That scar also led to this coding journey. “What is joy without sorrow? What is success without failure? What is a win without a loss? What is health without illness? You have to experience each if you are to appreciate the other. There is always going to be suffering. It’s how you look at your suffering, how you deal with it, that will define you.” —Mark Twain
It's a Twofer Tuesday!!! Comps of 2 of my upcoming comics just arrived in my mailbox:
THE COMIC BOOK HISTORY OF COMICS vol 2 #2 arrives in comic stores tomorrow - writing by Fred Van Lente, colors by Adam Guzowski and drawn by me! Featuring a brand new HERstory of comics that I wrote and drew on one of my cartooning heroes, the original queen of punk rock cartooning, Shawn Kerri. Also featured are the rise of British comics and Jack Kirby's legal wranglings with Marvel and the effects they had on the comics industry at large. We're all really proud of this issue!
THE SECRET LOVES OF GEEKS is an anthology of true stories from a diverse collection of cartoonists and writers - my contribution is the memoir comic "The Cool Chick" about when I tried to impress an old girlfriend by committing a crime. That book comes out from Dark Horse Comics on Valentine's Day 2018. I'm thrilled to have my autobiography debut appear in editor Hope Nicholson's amazing book - don't miss it!
The problem with history is that it is more often told by winners and Persepolis makes me question who won after all. A beautiful account of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revlution, as a woman, Marjane Satrapi writes her autobiography which is in equal parts hopeful, resilient, emphatic and still, traumatic. 🙌💛
This novel gave me a wonderful perspective into history and stands as a great symbol for women's empowerment. It's not only your extreme repressive laws but also your everyday garden-variety sexism which derails our movement everyday. Give this book a read if you're still exploring the injustices and struggles women have had to and continue to face in this world. But even more importantly, read this to appreciate all the strength and rigour that women have shown in times of the deepest trial 💪🏼🌼
I don't know if it's just me, but Iran seems to be one of the most beautiful nations for travel but it's a pity that our world is increasingly so complex that travel to Iran is no longer a straight affair. 😪

“I Am Music, The Story” is an inspirational story of how a single man's faith, persistence, and belief that the road of becoming a successful singer/songwriter and artist is exactly God's plan for his life. This story is the musical autobiography of my life. The book will bring emotions of laughter and sorrow, as well as reveal to you how "persistence pays off"! Never give up! And it is my hope that you will come to an understanding that the love and hope for eternal life can only come through the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
