Meet Dru....She was a very kind lady that stopped by my booth this past weekend st Mosaics Fine Art Festival. We had a very interesting conversation. She was especially interested in my large canvas called, "Clover Time". It features three jennies and two baby donkeys.
During our chat I learned as a little girl that she was trying to learn to ride a bike. It was 1955 and she was six years old. Her parents tasked her brother with the job of helping her. He was eight years older and not happy about being assigned to do this.
Her brother took her to the top of a hill gave her a big push and she went rolling down the hill till she toppled over and crashed her bike, skinning her knees something fierce. Of course after this she was terrified of the bike and her parents felt so bad that they turned to the Montgomery Ward Catalog.
Here they looked at a pony to buy for young Dru, but decided they were to contrary. Therefore, young Dru's parents ordered her a donkey from the Montgomery Ward Catalog. She told me that you could also buy ponies and donkeys through the Sears Catalog too.
Dru waited and waited for her donkey to arrive. She was so excited when a large box truck pulled up in front of her home to deliver Jezebel. The young donkey had some health issues, but her family took good care and nursed the donkey back to health.
Dru told me she's had a life long live of donkeys, not so much for bicycles. #donkeyoftheday#goodmemories#photographyislifee#donkey#mosaicsartfair#stcharlesartfair#artfair#artshow#farmlife#farmanimals#kimcarrphotography#montgomeryward#montgomerywardcatalog#petsofinstagram#pets 🐾 #babyanimals
I'm recreating this painting for someone I love who really wanted the first one I did. That one sold before I could say lamb chops and they were very sad. I'm certain when I'm finished this will be just as awesome. :) #anniegriffethart#oilpainting#lamb
