In the Chihuahuan desert of the Trans-Pecos lies a hidden oasis that looks out to the Davis Mountains. While the surrounding areas of the lake are actually run down the lake it’s self is breath taking. It’s crystal clear water is also the home of 2 endangered species of desert fish. If you’re ever in far West Texas make sure you drive by this place and check it out.
Pre Sunday spinning at @mpdsmiami! Apprentice thread throughs are inspired and taken from @polecricket!! And a great Saturday mood is provided by new training set from @milakrasna!!!
No picture or shitty iPhone video can even begin to capture one iota if this band’s beauty and yet their brilliance is undeniable. Thank you @balmorheamusic for a breathtaking concert last week. .
The songs from the video are
1 & 2: Bowsprit
3: Behind the World
4: Truth (Now go listen/buy the actual recordings) .
It's been that kind of month so far - I was reflecting on last week's Aphex Twin super ambient chilled out track and thinking - my god - I need something similar. However - unlike last week - where I just needed something to calm me down - this week I was ready to work - I needed something to carry me along.
I like my writing music to start gently - or at least, give me a second or two to change my head space and settle down into writing mode. This is one of those soft intros - string driven where you're not too sure where it's going to go - but the cymbal wash and introduction of the arpeggiated guitar immediately sets up a hypnotic flow that I can fall easily into.
This is another of those tracks that on a good day I'd just sit back and mentally write a movie to - there's so much going on and at 7 minutes long, it doesn't need to show its hand too soon. While the first half is all about establishing the theme, it's relatively low energy - and that's fine for settling into the flow but by the time you get two thirds into the track the energy level picks up and it becomes more insistent and driving and that's what I love about it.
It's probably just me but I swear at times like this I start to type in time with the music - and on tracks like this it can seem like my fingers are hooves and I'm galloping along with the most amazing soundtrack hurrying me along and encouraging me to be brilliant!
Its great isn't it?! you should probably take this out for a spin... #balmorhea @balmorheamusic #amwriting#writing#writingprompts#essay#essays#essaywriting#playlist#writingplaylist#essayplaylist#musicto#musictowriteto
Super lucky that I got to see @balmorheamusic the other day at littlefield. I've been a fan since River Arms, All is Wild, All is Silent was one of my first vinyls when I started collecting. Truth was probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard live. #balmorhea
It was a real honor seeing @balmorheamusic Thursday night. I started listening to these guys back in 2011, when I was going through some of my darkest years. So it meant a lot to finally be able to see them live. When I go to these shows with my camera, I usually end up with 1000+ photos. But last night, I only took 32 because it was more important to me to live through the experience than to try and capture it.
Due to Apache’s ‘Alpine High’ 300,000 acre buy out with current and future #industrialization
we’re looking at almost 65,000 acre-feet of withdrawal from the regional #aquifers annually.
The #company has not done any large scale #hydrology studies to consider #water#aquifers , or the disruption of spring flow.
There are multiple large-scale water mining projects in the region - Wolfcamp Water Partners, Hughes Apache Ranch Agua Grande, and others who are proposing
to withdraw tens of thousands of acre-feet annually from the same structure, the Capitan Reef Complex.
All of this #activity bypasses oversight from regional #groundwater management districts, and seems to be flying under the radar, largely #unregulated .
Additionally, we’ve learned from the USGS interactive system at earthquakes.usgs.gov that the #earthquake activity in the region between August 1,2017 and October 31, 2017
has shown 21 events greater than magnitude 2.5, five of them magnitude 3.0 or greater.
These earthquakes can lead to disruption of aquifer #recharge flow zones, mixing of aquifers, and surface damage, as has been the case in North Texas near the Barnett Shale, and in #Oklahoma . The connections between deep-well injection and increased #seismicity have been verified by researchers, but that information has been deliberately suppressed, discounted, as well as attempts made to discredit it by regulatory agencies and the oil & gas #industry .
The confluence of this activity, ranging from water use, to risks of water #contamination from the associated uses, increased #seismicity , and all these interactions are only minimally understood.
None of this activity is regulated. It is all for private gain, unwarranted, irresponsible and along the sacrificial
route of the last frontier of #westtexas
We’re working on copy and contacts of representatives to have your voices heard.
Stay tuned. Big thanks to Coyne Gibson from the @bigbendconservationalliance for his #fact checking. 📷 by @nicksimonite of Balmorhea State Park.
#balmorhea I knew about them back in 2009, when I was still in high school. Found and listened to them in the record store where I later worked in 2013. Though my perception of music and music scenes have changed over the time and I know interpretations shift with contexts, I still can't get rid of the memories. That period of time, studying without ends or meanings, is a mark. Music back then was and still is a getaway. And long time no see Mercury Lounge!
