Tonight I saw Bangarra's 'Bennelong' for the second time. I wanted to share my thoughts after the first performance but it left me completely speechless. It was heartfelt, confronting and incredibly beautiful. Such a raw honesty in their movement, it was truly like nothing I have ever seen before. Thank you @bangarradancetheatre for sharing your incredible talent and passion, I can't wait to see what you do next! ❤️#somedaysifeellikebennelong#bennelong#Bangarra#dance#contemporarydance
We would love to keep @bangarradancetheatre a secret but we just can't. Every September this brilliant dance company brings to life Indigenous history and stories through dance and it's always just beautiful. One for your 2018 diaries
I can't even remember the last time or if I ever gave a standing ovation to a dance theatre production. I didn't know what to expect when I sat in the Playhouse Theatre of the Arts Centre tonight. Didn't even care to read the program. I want to take in the narration without written influence.
But at the end of the 70 minute production, I was standing and clapping,. Not with the usual joyous filled emotion that I get from watching another great production, but with just sheer RESPECT.
BENNELONG presented by Bangarra Dance Theatre...Good GOD! So powerful. So emotional. The music and the dancers movements told the entire cultural story. It is basically moving art.
Thanks for inviting me @davrosm and Thank you @bangarradancetheatre It was such a great evening.
Just got home and reflecting on tonight's exceptional performance of #Bennelong by #Bangarra Dance theatre. The piece tells the events that occurred in Woollarawarre Bennelong's life. His life from approximately 1764 to 1813 intersects with the colonisation of Australia and creates his unique story. If you can make it over the next week I highly recommend that you see this exceptional piece of Australian art.
"I was born into a family of #storytellers . Many a night was spent in the Page household dreaming up characters, fashioning props from whatever items were on hand, making costumes from Mum and Dad's wardrobe, putting a record on and playing pretend…. That childhood thirst for stories has never left me; in fact it has only intensified. I'm fortunate that I have a strong connection to #culture to draw upon, a rich #songline of ancestors who were extraordinary in their tenacity and survival. I'm surrounded by #artists who are equally as passionate about our #culture , and who use their own experiences as contemporary #Aboriginal men and women to bring a new perspective to #ancient#lore ." (Artistic Director, #StephenPage ) Tonight, tonight, @bangarradancetheatre's 'Bennelong', a new full-length work by Stephen Page. "I am clay, hardened by hope, softened by dreams". (Dramaturg, Alana Valentine) I am ready.
