So we received this excellent piece of American White Oak for a courtesy #quality check today. Our trusted supplier has about 20 tons of this in his inventory so we were offered to inspect the wood to advise on #designing .
First off, this piece is amazing. Measuring 21.5cm by 27cm, this beautiful sample showed us what real American #wood is. "Hard", "solid", "dense", and "smooth" was what went through my mind, to name a few. Its wavy grains were pronounced and you could feel them by the fingers, very typical of oak. Yet, it carried the same aroma as Scottish #oak , sharp and woody like those emerging from a glass of Jefferson's Kentucky #bourbon on the rocks.
I'm still thinking what to do with 20 tons of this wonderful work of nature. Vanozza is about modernism and American White Oak is mainly rustic; these two run contrary to each other. I want to make something that strikes between the Scandinavian designs I'm often inspired by and the country feel of continental America, mainly that of New England's 'log cabin revivalist' movement. It's a tough compromise on both ends. I'm bending over backwards to combine #modernism and #rustic designs in a line of products that can appeal to our main market in the USA. You'll find out soon.
