After you hike up the Manitou Incline, you can take the stairs back down for more torture, or you can take the beautiful Barr Trail. It's approximately 3 miles down to the bottom, but extends all the way up to Pike's Peak if you're up for a real adventure! This being my first time in Colorado, I was blown away by the diversity. Would you even guess that there were evergreen covered mountain views just to the right of this almost dessert-like scene?
What started out as a drunken challenge has morphed into a annual event that we hike up the Barr Trail or the Incline in Manitou Springs. We have had members of our group come & go over the years but we always make we do it.
We are here in Colorado Springs to honour our fallen sisters & brothers at the IAFF Fallen Fighters Memorial; many who have suffered horrible deaths whether through job related cancer, job related mental health injuries or while responded to a job that they didn't come home from. This hike for me has become an opportunity to suffer (in no way as much as they have) for 12 miles as a tribute to our fallen brothers & sisters.
Also great to see our brother @dwgsc at the start as he returned from going up the Barr Trail.
When you think hiking up a mountain to 14,115ft would be cool.... but after all the pain and the views, it was all worth it in the end and now feeling it more the day after haha #PikesPeak#BarrTrail#Colorado
When I woke up this morning, I had two decisions to make. I could either sit in bed all day and feel sorry about the recent loss of my relationship or...I could get up and start my day.
I chose to get up.
Even when someone takes away the plans and thoughts you had about your future, you can't let it get to you. You shouldn't blame yourself for what happened. You shouldn't hate the person you split with and you shouldn't start feeling sorry for yourself.
Instead, this is a time to rebuild yourself. Wake up in the morning and say "Hey, life! You're being a real big bitch today. Come here so I can pull your hair!" Truthfully(and some of you may call bullshit but I actually told her this) I want nothing but her happiness. She deserves it, she deserves to be with someone that makes her smile. She deserves to be with someone that helps her feel alive each day. But am I going to be there to watch it?
Hell no! I've got my own life to live and I'm going to get my own damn happiness!
So today I decided to live my life by taking the barr trail up to the incline and get over it.
Today we climbed Pikes Peak and kicked it's butt! Such a special experience that I will cherish in my book of memories ❤️ I was blessed by the challenge and the accomplishment but even more blessed by the time spent with these beautiful people❤️⛰🌞 #hikeco#barrtrail#14ersofcolorado#challengeaccepted @lizabeth329
