EDITOR IN-CHIEF POST:
About me// My name is Wesley Horn. I've been writing music related blog posts for 5 years and playing bass for the 10 years. I'm from a suburb in Chicago and have lived here basically my whole life. I decided to start this bass blog to bring an intimacy to the bass community and also bring more spotlight on this beautiful instrument. It's also important to me to keep the Bass the classiest instrument in the world ;)
Fellow TalkBASS forum member Rip Van Dan has this to say about his setup: "The amp is a 1999 WT500 but I list it as WT500/800 because David Nordschow (founder of Eden and designer of the amp) upgraded the power section to 800 watts before he sold it to me back in 2010. The normal WT500 is a 500-watt amp.
The cab is DNA's DNS410. DNA is David's new company (David Nordschow Amplification). It's a crazy loud cab. Power handling is 1400-watts rms and 2800-watts peak. I feed it from my 800-watt amp but rarely can turn the master up on the amp past 9:30 because it will push people out the doors at 10 o'clock.
My bass is a MIA passive Jazz bass that I bought in mint condition while working at a music store in Portland, OR back in 1985. According to the serial number it was made late 1977 or early 1978, but it has white neck binding on it which was supposedly only done in 1966 and 1982. Regardless of when it was made it's a great bass and the neck feels just like my 1965 Jazz did." Picture used with permission (like all of them).
On the road to Alençon in France today. Sad to be leaving as only a three piece but stoked to see so much love and support being shown for Mike who I'm sure will be up and breaking balls in no time. Allez!
My next 'modern' bass, the ugly duckling that's the #earnieball#bongobass . This was co-designed with a team from BMW. Basswood body, 18 volt preamp, 4 band with two pickups, 3 band with one. HH, HS, H pickup configurations with a piezo option, volume and blend controls. 24 frets and comes in 4, 5 and 6 string configurations. Simply put this thing is a #beast ! I tried one to see why this strange looking bass had been in continuous production for over ten years. On my lap, the 4 String example I tried was well balanced and felt real nice, but the loose turning of knobs felt cheap to me. One day an early model HS 5 string turned up on a local forum very cheap. I jumped on it knowing I could at least make money off it. When I went to sell it again, I sat at home for two hours playing it into a preamp and headphones and decided I'd be stupid to let it go. My other 5 string is now on the shop for sale. #bassguitar#fivestring#bongo#bass#activebass#bassnerds#gearnerds#bassgram#instabass#shortarsebassist
This what #TheScubaCult#MK3#WalBass looks like after 17 years of playing the 💩out of it (see previous post). Im sure there's a good reason for why his teeth marks are on the headstock 🤔: "The "mint" in mint condition is of no value to me, personally. Simply, playing your heart out until your fingers don't want it anymore and your heart has had it's fill is." 👍 #walbasscollective
