The best reason to run outside, at night, after it rains ๐Ÿ˜ The only way I can do cardio is intervals. Recently I've been running .15 sprint .07 rest for 20-30 minutes. Ah-mazing.

Today I went to a tabata class, already sore from yesterday's workout, and in kind of a bleh mood. Ya know, it's just one of those days ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Basically I wanted the hour to go by in 5 minutes. I walk in and the instructor had the entire workout written on a white board, so I could already see the agony I was about to endure for the next hour ๐Ÿ™„ You know what wasn't agonizing? These chocolate chip cashew butter cups ๐Ÿคค

step 1: put 2 cups raw cashews into food processor. Processed them for about 10 minutes, stopping every once in a while to scrap down the sides (and NOT taste ๐Ÿ˜). Once creamy, added 1T MCT oil, 1t vanilla, 2t maple syrup, a shake of salt and blended again. Tossed in 1T cacao nibs and pulsed a few times.
step 2: melt 100% dark chocolate (I used @traderjoes brand-similar to @eatingevolved), with coconut oil. Line bottom of muffin liner and freeze for 10 minutes. Dollop some of the cashew buttah and cover with remaining chocolate. Freeze again. Keep yourself busy. Go back about half an hour later and have yourself a treat ๐Ÿค—

We've all started this journey for one reason or another.  Why did I start? 2 years ago I broke up with my boyfriend of 8 years, I lost my best friend through bad choices that I made, and I was so completely lost that I made all of my decisions based on impulse instead of logic.  To say times were tough would be an understatement; but I knew I was tougher.  I was an athlete growing up and I had been in and out of the gym for the better part of my 20's, but it was more of a hobby rather than my lifestyle.
When I moved to KCMO in the summer of 2015 I joined the gym across the street from my house & I slowly began training harder and harder.  In the early days I didn't have a set plan and I did the same circuits every day, but I developed a pattern of going consistently and as time passed my training progressed.  Fast forward to January 2017 -- I enrolled in CPT courses with @nasm_fitness and my journey to becoming a fitness professional was officially started.  I took a chance on myself, I started an IG not only to hold myself accountable, but to also be able to share my love of fitness with this world. 
Times are still tough sometimes but I will always be TOUGHER! .

Sometimes I wear motivational tanks to feel better about the fact that I haven't had a workout aside from lifting large boxes (aka moving things from house to car to new house) in a very long time. Life - it ain't always pretty, folks.

I must admit, I fell into a health / fitness slump after I got back from my short trip to Sydney. It was a very short trip but I fell through with my clean eating, craving unhealthy food and didn't want to get up to the gym. I took two days off and then pushed myself back into routine again and finally back on track. I make sure I have something before my workout and after to make sure I have enough fuel. Lately I've been trying out @health.enthusiast.co protein balls and it's been curbing my hunger! Best thing is they are all made for natural ingredients โ˜บ๏ธ

Whipped up this creamy chocolate banana coconut smoothie this morning using @rootznutrition Paleo Protein superfood blend.
One of the things I teach my clients is how to build a balanced smoothie that works to stabilize blood sugar, activate full metabolic function, support lean muscle build and digest well. Finding a high quality protein powder is a key part of this. In addition to that, adding a few booster foods to increase micronutrients, activate metabolism + increase energy. This blend not only contains 15g of protein, it also contains tons of my favorite boosters. Some of which include maca, bee pollen, spirulina, chlorella, chia, flax and hemp.
To make this smoothie combine...
1 serving of @rootznutrition Chocolate Banana Nut protein
1 heaping tbsp. cashew or almond butter 
1/3 frozen banana 
1 cup canned coconut milk 
1 tsp. cacao 
Handful of ice 
Blend + top with coconut flakes

I am the SWEATIEST mess of a human being right now. I tackled 35 minutes of Liss with 10 minutes of hiit in there. I'm actually really happy with myself and how much I pushed during hiit. Normally I challenge myself but still stay in a sort of safe zone but today I just was so motivated to sweat that I just kept pushing. I have 3 weeks until I go on vacation so I'm really trying to stay on track and make some progress! Happy Thursday friends! โค

The walk to Waitonga Falls at the base of @mtruapehu was truly amazing. With each passing mile I add on prepping for my first race in August, I continue to learn more and more about life. I used to hate running and I still don't love it, but have grown an appreciation for it. I've learned that it never gets easier, especially as you get faster but most importantly it's not necessarily about physical conditioning it's about mental conditioning. 
When you believe you can do it, you can accomplish so much more and that applies to all aspects of life. Biggest lesson, don't listen to anyone or even yourself saying that you can't do it, you can - and you will .. you just need to believe in yourself and go do it! Happy Thursday!

Here I am showing you guys a few of my favorite healthy snacks. 
1. Maca cookies: I just found these beauties here in Lima at a health food store. They are made with maca, almond butter, almond flour and stevia. That's it! And no sugar! Winning ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ
2. Powercrunch bars: These bars have been my favorite for a while now. I am OBSESSED. They only have 8g of carbs per bar ๐Ÿ˜ฑ perfect for those on a low carb diet! Plus they taste amazing ๐Ÿ˜‰ 
3. Matcha lattes: Made with almond milk preferably, they are the perfect pick me up in the afternoon because they contain caffeine. Matcha has 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea, is rich in chlorophyll and it boosts the metabolism. ๐Ÿต 
4. Golden milk lattes (turmeric lattes): These are made with turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper to improve absorption. I love having them when I'm craving something sweet! Turmeric has potent anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and gastrointestinal health properties ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝgreat for the gut!

I remember years ago, while I was at work, my boss at the time ended up saying "you're so resilient, Katrina" and I was so taken aback because I'd never been given a compliment like that before. And I ended up going home and actually telling my dad about it because it meant so much more to me than something like "you're so pretty" or "your outfit is cute" (don't get me wrong- those are still nice to hear). To this day I still remember the pride I felt receiving those words, how readily I accepted that compliment, and I still hold onto it to this day. It's incredible to be reminded that we're all so much more than just what's on the surface.

It is so hot out, I've been running on the treadmill lately when the baby naps. And it's kind of boring, so I did an interval program on the treadmill today. I like the inclines but I don't like when it drops the speed low, I was constantly adjusting the speed. I also did my barbell workout. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜€
