Hii happy Friday! I’ve been counting my macronutrients for a week now and after the first two days it really hasn’t been so bad! It’s made me more conscious about the foods I choose to put into my body and surprisingly, I am not overly obsessive about tracking my food. I actively try to hit my protein intake goal each day and watch my sugars and fats, but otherwise I’m not too strict on what I eat. I mean, I had Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving meals in the past 5 days and y’all know I’m not gunna let myself miss out on good food 😜 If I knew I’d be eating more one day, I’d consciously eat a bit less a few days prior/day of to balance it out. I’m definitely feeling leaner since last Friday. And although I’m eating fewer calories, I actually feel hungry LESS often (I used to feel ravenous hunger every 2 hours lol 🤷🏻♀️), probably because of my higher protein intake and more nutrient dense foods? I’m not sure. But I’m feeling good and I’m glad I decided to make macro tracking a goal of mine! It feels nice to know that I at least have some willpower/control when it comes to food 😂 In my next few posts I’ll share some of my favorite nutrient&protein dense/low cal meals that I’ve enjoyed this week. Ahhh, post Thanksgiving bloat & #sweatyhairdontcare 😂 totally normal & I’m okay with it bc today’s a new day! Put in some steady rowing this morning (1 hr), focusing on tons of water, & lots of veggies todayyy. Hope y’all have a good one!
One of the most common questions I get is about my fitness tracker. Do I like it? Why do I use it? Do I eat back the calories I burn?
Fitness trackers CAN be a fantastic way to get motivated, get reminders to move and collect statistics. BUT none of them are 100% accurate. ⚠️ A 2017 Stanford study found, “Even the most accurate device was off by an average of 27 percent. And the least accurate was off by 93 percent.”
So, what’s the point?
🔸Most trackers are able to measure heart rate with an error rate of less than 5% which can be very helpful during exercise.
🔸Even if the pedometer and calorie burn aren’t accurate, you can compare stats from one week to the next to get an idea if you're walking/being active more or less than the previous week. 🔸Extrinsic motivation – you can compete with yourself or your friends to be more active which is super motivating for a lot of people.
What about the calorie burn?
🔸I personally don’t rely on it. Sometimes I find that it can be somewhat accurate, and other times I’m 1000% sure it’s over estimating my calorie burn.
🔸I DO NOT use the calories burned to help me figure out how much to eat.
🔸I DO NOT intentionally eat back calories burned.
🔸I think that using only these stats to calculate how much you can eat has the potential to hinder your progress as they don't take into consideration your metabolism, body composition or a lot of other personal factors (more details in the link in bio)
So what fitness tracker do I use? I use the @polarglobal A360 and I personally love it!! .

The thing about my memory, I don't forget things and I recall them differently. I associate dates and objects with moments and feelings... eidetic kind of... and I started to hate how Thanksgiving in Florida memories will always start with this shitty day. So while it was still an incredibly hard and sad day, and I couldn't even make the dish I was supposed to bring to work because of all things, I don't have a can opener... I made the most of it and showed up with a grateful heart, knowing that I could make someone else's shitty Thanksgiving a little better ❤️ So instead of remembering my first Thanksgiving here as lonely, homesick and sad... I will remember it as my first holiday with my new work family where we kicked some serious ass, stamped out diseases and saved lives 💛 When you have a bad day... a really really bad day... try and treat the world better than it treated you... and that I did.

Is there anything more comforting than a big bowl of warm soup on a cold Autumn day? This spicy pumpkin cream soup by @katyacreates is super delicious and perfect to use leftover pumpkin from Thanksgiving 🤗
I tried the recipe and made a few minor adjustments to make it grain-free and higher in healthy fats + lower in carbohydrates. You can find it down below 👍

1kg pumpkin, free of seeds
1 small zucchini
4 stalks celery
1tbsp coconut oil
Fresh ginger, to taste
700 ml coconut milk
1tsp turmeric powder + sea salt & black pepper to taste
Coconut cream or yogurt + cilantro (or parsley) + red pepper flakes to go on top
• In a large pot heat the oil and cook the roughly chopped onions and ginger with black pepper and sea salt until fragrant and soft.
• Add the roughly chopped pumpkin, zucchini & celery together with the coconut milk. Cover the pot and cook at medium heat for about 20 minutes until tender.
• Allow to cool a bit before blending the soup in a blender until smooth.
•Season with turmeric, black pepper and sea salt to taste.
Top with coconut cream or yogurt, red pepper flakes (optional) and cilantro or parsley.
