[ Rek ayo rek ] 🎶
Rek ayo rek, mlaku mlaku nang Tunjungan.
Rek ayo rek, rame rame bebarengan.
Cak ayo cak, sopo gelem melu aku.
Cak ayo cak, dolek kenalan cah ayu.
Ngalor ngidul liwat toko ngumbah moto.
Masio mung senggal senggol ati lego.
Sopo ngerti nasib Awak lagi mujur.
Kenal anake sing dodol rujak cingur.
Jok dipikir Angger podho gelem mlaku.
Jok dipikir angger podho gak duwe sangu.
Mangan tahu jok dicampur nganggo timun.
Malam minggu jok podho digawe nglamun.
This is a song created by Is Haryanto with the title Rek Ayo Rek and popularized by Mus Mulyadi. The song that identical with Surabaya is born from his ability to create songs. Although he's not Surabaya people.
In the song Rek Ayo Rek, Is Haryanto using the typical Surabaya smelling words. For example, Tunjungan (one of Surabaya's shopping areas. Hey, you can see the biggest and tallest building in Tunjungan Street called Tunjungan Plaza in the picture), Rujak Cingur (Surabaya cuisine), and Rek said as a intimate greeting for Surabaya youth. Very fitting sung by Mus Mulyadi with his thick surabaya accent.
[ Tunjungan Street ]
Tunjungan Street since early 20th century has become one of Surabaya's commercial centers. This road is a connecting road that once became the main shopping area in Surabaya.
One of the famous buildings on Tunjungan street is the Siola Building. Before becoming Siola, this building was used as a UK department store called "WHITEAWAY". In 1940's used to sell goods imported from Japan, the name changed to "CHIYODA SHOP". Despite several times changing his front face, now the Siola Building is still a landmark for the environment around Tunjungan street. (wikipedia)
