This is Average Beer Dude Review #126 for @moderntimesbeer Star Metal Ale. Rating: 4/5 – Exceptional 🤘🏼
Four score and 7 days ago I said I’m really starting to love Gose-style and Berliner-type beers. This offering by Modern Times, while not the best I’ve ever had of this style (so far), reaffirms just that. Dammit these beers are so refreshing and delicious and really make for the perfect weekend afternooner. I was a little late to the game on reviewing this beer, but it held wonderfully as most Modern Times beers tend to do. 1 month old? Doesn’t matter. 2 months old? Doesn’t matter. 3 months old? I’ve never kept a Modern Times beer that long so I can’t help you there. I could go on and on about quality, but there’s no point. The one and only point is that Modern Times is on point. How many points could a pointer point if a pointer could point points? Okay, I’ll stop now
What It’s Like:
Star Metal is Modern Times’ take on a Berliner Weisse. An Ale brewed with guava, orange, pineapple, and hibiscus, Star Metal hits the table at a mild 5.5% and low IBU rating. When it left the very-Metallica-esque can, it poured a purply-magenta color with an off-white fizzy head of foam. On the nose, it smelled as most Gose-style beers would smell – fruity, tart, and herbal with hints of orange. Personally, I didn’t pick up a lot of hibiscus-specific notes, nor pineapple. This beer had a thinner body, but was very lively, carbonated, and slick. The tasty taste revealed a fountain of tangy sourness headlined by orange, tropical fruits and tea-like herbs. The finish offered a lingering blandness, but I was already sold that I loved it by that point
Might Recommend For:
Anyone that enjoys the fruitier side of the beer world would enjoy this crafted beverage
What’s Not to Like:
As mentioned, everything was mighty fine on this brew up until that sort-of bland finish

So there will be no more @beavertownbeer gamma ray quite like this. @nicholasd revealed the slightly tweaked new cans today which will align much better with the current skull design by switching the triangle for Nicks iconic skull. Great to see small but important updates. Might have to keep this can for prosperity
