People often ask where the idea of technical dresses originated. Answer: one summer night I was biking to dinner in a dress. The trek was 4 miles and I sweat my 🍑 off, ruined the dress, and knew I needed something better. Us ladies needed a dress we could bike in AND wear to dinner. #dressesforwhatever
'Tis the season for gifting and this year you can make your money go SO much further by shopping independent and supporting small businesses and makers 🙏 🎁 Everyone's a winner when you shop small 🙌 You'll be buying gifts that are unique and will properly wow on Christmas Day, and there will be a small business owner, designer or maker punching the air when you purchase 🎉 Make your money count this Christmas and support small businesses and causes you believe in 🎄🎅 Posting this beautiful work from @lolahoad_ because it just gets more and more relevant and important as the years go on ✌
☛With each phone call you make or pick, with every order or service you provide, as a business owner will either add to the life of your business or encourage the early death of your dream. ☛Keep in mind that businesses are constantly being solicited to transfer their accounts to a new vendor. Be secure in your own abilities (When you are sure you're meant to be a survivor, you'll be able to hold on to your position in your industry and make your business count). ☛Make a list. Any item on your list that will make you money or save you money should be addressed first. This will give you the additional ready cash to work on the other items on your list that require more funds. ☛I have a distaste for numbers but a fondness for people; so I decided from the beginning I wouldn't attempt to purse anything related to math. So many responsibilities accompany business, management and ownership. The occasional disagreeable job will filter back to you, set up your business so that you can enjoy the bulk of your duties. ☛Do your research, but don't let the details deter you from your path. You are the one person who can make your dreams a reality. Power comes from knowledge; use your resources and learn as much as you can.
You can accomplish everything on your own timeline. Do what you can, but do it well.
“Surround yourself with people that reflect who you want to be and how you want to feel; energies are contagious.” - R.W. // I get my best work done when I’m in a bright space, surrounded by innovative, powerful, encouraging people. I’ve found over the years that being with like-minded business owners who I can be vulnerable with is a vital part of personal and professional self-care.
Upcycled Hour’s #BehindtheBrand today is one of our most successful Business Club Members. Paul Parry of @baddogdesigns is a very unique designer-remaker; already a successful electronics engineer, he has now created a thriving and international product design business that produces clocks of a calibre admired by celebrities and royal families alike. Predominantly steampunk in style, his designs range from the fun to the fantastic; they are fascinating and frankly fabulous, each one created to the highest standard with meticulous care and attention to detail. In only a few years, Paul has taken his business from a spare room hobby to a successful full-time business. This year Bad Dog has showcased at Grand Designs Live and during London Design Festival week where their stand was one of the most-visited at 100% Design at Olympia. Paul is a member of Theo Paphitis’ prestigious #SBS business club (you can see a little of the ex Dragon with Paul in the photo) and one of his proudest moments was winning the Merit award in the International Arts & Crafts Design Award 2016. Never considering himself as an artist, to be recognised as such by a was a huge benchmark in Paul’s already successful design career. And life away from the workshop keeps him busy too. Paul lives in Staffordshire with his business partner and soon-to-be wife Karen, children and step-children and of course Max their Retriever, the bad dog himself! #UpcycledHour#BusinessClub#baddogdesigns#steampunk#upcycler#upcycling#nixieclocks#paulparry#staffordshire#upcycledclocks 100percentdesign #londondesignfestival#granddesignslive#staffsartist#theopaphitis#steampunkclocks
Having friends over for dinner calls for a vegetarian lasagne! ⠀
This beauty was packed with 10 different types of vegetables and no one missed the meat with all those lentils and kidney beans in there. So delicious! ⠀
You can get my recipe on my blog - link in bio :)
There is a story behind every brand. The Earth Angels Project logo, designed for a grief counselor, was inspired by a traditional East Asian icon, the Kinnari, a half human - half swan - a traditional symbol of feminine beauty, grace and accomplishment, known to watch over the well-being of humans in times of trouble or danger. #behindTheBrand#LogoDesign#kinnari
My cat used to purposefully knock over the regular magnetic pin holder so he could watch them scatter all over the floor, and that is why I had to get the industrial strength one you can find at home improvement stores.
Hello to all you new followers, thought I’d make some introductions and tell you the G&F story. I attempted to take a nice photo of Fraggle and I for you and this was the result. There were more normal attempts but, sod it, this sums us up more authentically 😂
For those of you who already know the story don’t feel the need to read on 😉
I'm Holly and two years ago my big brother died very unexpectedly. A year after he died I was made redundant from a job in charity I'd given my all to for over four years. I was suddenly left in a void with a complete loss of self-identity. Everything I knew was no longer there and I had to start learning about myself all over again. I picked myself up and got a new job with another charity but I’d lost my sense of purpose.
As an ex-art student/writer/photographer I knew I needed to get back in touch with my creativity, my one true passion. Through a series of events and because I impulsively said yes to something, G&F was born.
Do you know what? Best yes I ever said. I stopped worrying about planning and projections and how I was going to make it work and took the leap. I came home from my day job, and worked my arse off for five days. In those five days I built my brand, designed and printed products, packaged up literally hundreds of cards (I went a bit overboard) and built a website from scratch.
Just over a year later and here I am! I still work full time (now for another charity...I'm such a charity slut) and G&F makes up the rest of my life. Is it hard? Yes. Do I want to give up most of the time? Yes. But do I love it? Of course.
So welcome to Ginger and Fraggle. We’re (me and Fraggle!) delighted to have you here. Thanks for joining the journey ✨
Say hello to my extremely fluffy spaniel!! He is going in for his Christmas groom on Monday so he's ready for Santa Paws! I took him for a big long walk this morning and he's been asleep all day! He's so cute and fluffy with all his fur too!
A little shout out to the lady behind the design and branding of this little playgroup @heidihawyes you are amazing at what you do and do it so effortlessly! Thank you for all your hard work❤️ #behindthebrand
A @taleforesther custom made piece in the works! ✨ I met this client when I first started 10 years ago in fashion school at FIDM. She has seen my progress from when I was interning during fashion shows, my styling gigs & to where I am now. So when I was approached to design her daughter’s dress, I was excited and humbled at the same time. I Can’t wait to reveal how our combined ideas come to life! Stay tuned. 💙 xxka #taleforesther#behindthebrand#fashiondesigner#creativeprocess

Wednesday’s Upcycled Hour #BehindtheBrand is a lady whose very unique upcycling business has gone from strength to strength since she first discovered our community. Debbie Carne has taken @alijoedesigns from a small North London craft business to having her creations appear at Tom Baker’s hotel in Dorset, showcasing at Top Drawer, appearing at London’s Artists Residence hotel, selling to the likes of successful interiors journalist Kate Watson-Smythe @mad_about_the_house and recently being asked to showcase her designs during next year’s London Design Fair and much more besides. After a successful career in the corporate world, Debbie was caught between retraining as a barista or doing something a little different with vintage plates. Thankfully her desire to reincarnate plates won the day and she now creates unique, often witty, always eye-catching decorative art for walls. Debbie lives and works in Highgate, together with her husband and two sons, she’s a great fan of the works of the likes of René Magritte and Piero Fornasetti and takes an active interest in the arts scene both here and on the continent. An artisan who is always very humble about her creative abilities and success, Debbie’s slightly bemused somewhat surprised look in this photo may just say it all #UpcycledHour#businessclub#debbiecarne#vintageplates#alijoedesigns#highgate#northlondon#highgatelife#topdrawer#upcycler#decoupage#decals#tombaker#vintagelife#upcycledplates
I'm considering running a workshop with a qualified chef on cooking using everyday ingredients - is this something you would be interested in?⠀

Its #UpcycledHour Tuesday and time to reveal today’s Business Club Member #BehindtheBrand#artisan . Its your lucky day because with @lovinglymade you get two for the price of one, three if you count Charlie the dog! Trixie and John Bradley run their emporium of upcycled and vintage gorgeousness from their shop and studio base in East Grinstead, Sussex. If you are a fan of heritage, country or chateau chic style, a visit to the Lovingly Made store should be a date. They also stock Fusion Mineral Paint and have a wide range of home ware and garden accessories, many items sourced from France for that extra element of je ne sais quoi. When I'm not sewing, I'm generally enjoying the simple things in life. I love getting out in the great outdoors, looking up, down, all around and admiring all things nature. I mean... just look at the colours in this #nofilter shot from out on the dogwalk just now! There is a sense of calm, awe and plenty of inspiration to be had in an appreciation of the natural world, isn't there? Did you know that Velcro was invented by a Swiss engineer, inspired by a walk with his dog? When he returned home with burdock seeds stuck to his clothes and the dog's fur, he took a closer look at the burr's tiny hooks and how effectively they clung to his dog's soft fur (gah - been there, done that!) and hey presto, along came a great haberdashery invention!

Ok mamas! This is an episode you don’t want to miss! Grab a warm cup of ☕️ and snuggle up to Heather’s interview with our girl @janny.organically! Took Felix to his first fashion event today, to check out @stylistlive. We were of course fashionably late (missed the @mother_pukka talk I was dying to go to), as he didn't get the memo about leaving the house on time 😂. Then he slept through the whole thing! I enjoyed it though. Met some great makers behind some favourite brands (looking at you @airandgrace 😊), and caught up with some old friends. Our pieces (but sadly not us), will be at stand B24 as part of @kristinagoeswest who also does the most beautiful jewellery and bags. #stylistlive#entrepreneurlife#mumtrepeneur#fashion#fashionbrand#behindthebrand#orwellausten#inspirationoftheday
⚡️Flashback Friday to when Dr. Wright officially checked out of @shermancollege clinic and saw his last patient ever as a student! ⚡️ Soon he’ll be seeing patients at @bigwavechiro_myrtlebeach as a Doctor of Chiropractic. 😁
BLOG // A few weeks back, in those joyous, chilled days between maternity leave starting and having baby no. 2, I was interviewed by the beautiful Louise from @babylunoshop
Check it out on her blog now - not sure I agree with the title "incredible" 😚😚 just another mum trying to make it all work! So sweet nonetheless 😘😘 Link in bio ⬆️
Friday’s #BehindtheBrand is a pro #upcycler who puts a lot of wit and wonder into her upcycled furniture. Originally from the USA, Upcycled Hour Business Club Member Elizabeth Knowles now lives with her husband and children in the beautiful North London area of Hampstead. After working in the world of graphic design for over 20 years, designer Elizabeth felt it was time to apply her skills to a different kind of creativity. She now produces a range of surprising upcycled furniture and home ware, painting, decoupaging and reupholstering, using a diverse, wide range of materials from old jeans to ties, vintage comics to soft toys, creating upcycled statement pieces of furniture for the contemporary residential or commercial venue. Her recent commission for a school reception area, where she utilised their uniform as upholstery, was a little bit of upcycling genius! @oldbagdesigns knows a thing or two two about creating a statement piece! #UpcycledHour#BusinessClub#hampstead#northlondoner#upcycler#denimtrend#upcycling#reupholster#ecochic#bluechair#schoolfurniture#upcycledclothes#designerremaker#creativereuse#upcycledfurniture

What a month it’s already been. I have a lot of amazing things coming up for everyone but first I wanted you to get to know me just a little! My name is Deanna Gonzalez and I am planner addict and I am not ashamed... well sometimes I am especially, when I spend $200 on paper and pens in Target when I only went for bath soap... I’m sure you all feel my pain. I love putting pen to paper! I’ll be sure to stay in touch as I’m building my labor of love. It’s been 2 years in the making. Drop me a line below 👇🏼👇🏼to say hello. I’m new to Instagram so let me know a few good people to follow in our planner community 😁
WRAP UP | Our wrap cardigan; in a drapey fine lambswool. Perfect to layer and slim ribbed sleeves so you can wear a jacket or coat over the top. It's been a favourite since 2014 - we began knitting these on our old knitting machine in the studio but found a brilliant small knitwear mill in the borders to collaborate with who is making them for us this season 🇬🇧 This is a traditional oak swill basket made by Owen Jones who is a local Lake District legend 🌿
