Black Turnstone | Tournepierre noir | Schwarzkopf-Steinwälzer | Arenaria melanocephala: This was a nice bonus bird to see as we were winding down our American West Coast trip at the end of last year. On this particular day, I was almost expecting to see this species, as I have occasionally seen them in British Columbia as they flew and fed around seals resting on logs or wood structures in the ocean. In this case, the birds were at a fair distance with sea lions, but then flew towards rocks not far from where I was standing.
