Is Soy healthy? I get this question so often and the answer is yes! Soy is really health promoting and one of my big staples in my whole food plant-based diet

Soy won’t make you female or grow you man boobs. The Phytoestrogen in soy are 10,000 weaker than real estrogen which is found in animal products such as dairy and meat.

Phytoestrogen even block your estrogen receptors, thus lower your risk of breast cancer and soy is the number 1 source of isoflavones which lowers your risk of other cancer forms. One study showed regular consumption of the equivalent of one cup of soy milk daily was associated with up to 38% lower overall mortality among breast cancer patients.

In addition, menopausal adult women who increase their phytoestrogen intake by eating soy foods help reduce hot flashes and young girls who consume soy help delay the onset of premature puberty.

Soy phytoestrogens seem to significantly boost bone mineral density, the soy phytoestrogen, may prevent bone loss and accelerate new bone formation. This may help explain why soy food consumption is associated with lower bone fracture risk.

Research also suggests soy consumption may help reduce skin wrinkles, fight depression, lower cholesterol, reduce allergy risk, prevent and improve asthma symptoms, protect against COPD and suppress storage of abdominal fat.

Most soy milks provide the same amount of calcium, and twice the antioxidant content, as cow’s milk. Soy has also a great amino acid profile  and is high in calcium, magnesium, iron, selenium, copper and other essential nutrients so please eat soy products 🙏🏼 Only crazy high amounts of soy (9-12 servings a day!) reduce some of the health benefits. 1-5 servings are totally health promoting 💚

This is what a typical day of mine looks like (snacks excluded). I won’t go into the recipe instructions in details because that would be just a content overload 😅 This swipe option is already next level s** and I’m hacking the f** out of it 😜 Lets go:

1️⃣Breakfast: Put everything besides toppings in a pot and heat to moderate heat. Stir frequently and when it starts to thicken up put it in a bowl, add the toppings - simple af

2️⃣Lunch: Besides cooking the quinoa and slicing the veggies you don’t need to do much more besides mixing everything together and enjoy 😋

3️⃣Dinner: Cook penne and stew in a pan all the other stuff + I added nutritional yeast, spices, 1,5g wakame for my daily iodine, pomegranate seeds (because I had some leftovers) and some herbs 🍀

4️⃣You can also snack in-between. I eat about 1-3 snacks per day like fruits or dark chocolate. More variation in my ebook (link in my bio or visit vegainstrength.de). And as I said, you probably need less calories so just make the portions smaller by taking e.g. 100g oats instead of 150g, easy as that 👌🏼 If I still have one comment like “TOO MANY CALORIES” then I lost hope in humanity 🙄😅

🌊Sea vegetables include a big variety of algae including Nori which you know from sushi 🍱 other sea vegetables rich in iodine are: Wakame, Dulse, Kelp, Kombu, Watercress etc.

🍱So I encourage you to get nori sheets and make your own vegan sushi once in a while or go out and eat vegan sushi. And/or get another algae. E.g. I always have a bag of Wakame because it has so much iodine, I just need 1,5g per day to hit my daily iodine and it taste really good for me in my bowl 😋

🍌Also little iodine is found in almost all whole plant-based foods (depending on the mineral content of the ground, closer to oceans the iodine levels are higher)  so eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts & seeds.

❌I don’t recommend iodine supplement because we can absorb >90% of it and often they are dosed too high and too much iodine is almost as bad as too little.

💛Turmeric has so many health benefits, its ridiculous 😍 I won’t bombard you with them but rather encourage you to spice with it AND also add black pepper to boost the curcumin absorption by 2000% 😱👌🏼

Woooo lost 5% body fat from my last count. Pretty stoaked, today was obviously chestday and enjoyed every bit of it. Hapoy at where my body is and now for the summer maintanance which never works out, considering summer junk food and all. 😂

My testimony! Before taking my magic beans I sat at the exact same body composition and weight. All I wanted to see was how much exercise and food I needed to maintain, bulk muscle and lean out.  No fat burners, no coffee bean, Garcinia worked. It was like I was throwing my money away!! Literally!!!!!! It all adds up.

I already had a good diet, but always felt I needed something extra to fuel my busiest of days! Aka sugar!

Let's face it - being a full time mum of 4  boys and working around the clock - it's going to eventually lead to burn out. Yes, been there several times, but here I am! Only the support of my family got me through those tough moments. More.on that later.  I found these a while back (and wow so many people actually are taking them...why did they not tell me!!). This photo actually means so much to me - it shows me the total unbelievable change in myself. Yes physically I’m very different but it’s the changes in my character and confidence that amaze me.  It was @mr_gymbox_pt client party Friday night and the old me a) wouldn’t have a PT to go to his party but b) would have never in a million years have gone and if I had I would have felt sick with nerves for days before and would have felt so shy and worried about talking to people and wouldn’t have just been myself (a total uncool weirdo 😂) but I felt none of that ... I just felt confident, I was comfortable talking to anyone and could just be my odd ball self. Dropping weight rapidly is generally not a good idea if you want to have sustainable fat loss and preserve muscle [1]. But in obese and overweight populations, it appears that a more aggressive approach to weight loss is not always detrimental to muscle preservation or adherence. .

One study found that overweight novice trainees were able to gain a small amount of muscle while maintaining an aggressive caloric deficit of 40% [2]. The fact that these individuals had much excess fat to break down for energy helps explain why they are able to preserve muscle well during an aggressive diet. .

Other research shows that fast initial weight loss improves body image and enhances the perceived health of overweight individuals in the first month of “dieting”, which is associated with increased motivation and long-term adherence to a fat loss plan [3, 4]. .

With that said, it's important to note that the duration at which an aggressive diet should be maintained is not long, see it as a way to "kickstart" a long fat loss phase. The leaner you become, the less aggressive your weight loss goals should become and the more breaks you take from dieting. .

As a general rule of thumb, for those carrying much excess (higher than 25%) body fat, a weight loss rate of 1-2% of total body weight per week is a good starting point. .

Two things you need to know, the lats do not retract the scapula, and the lats do not retract the scapula. 
To train a muscle correctly, we need to think of what that muscles function is. 
Middle trapezius (+rhomboids) – scapula retraction

Latissimus dorsi (lats) – Shoulder adduction (in different planes), and shoulder extension.

These muscles have other synergistic roles too, but for the sake targeting them during training, lets focus on these roles. 
Now that we know these functions, all we need to do is use weight to make these movements more difficult, to force the muscle to adapt.

Focus on my middle traps + rhomboids by retracting the scapula as much as possible. This is commonly referred to as working on back “thickness”, which isn’t a great expression as the lats play a big role in back thickness too. 	To make sure I’m hitting the right muscle, I’m engaging the movement with the muscles I want to hit, then making them the last muscles to begin the eccentric portion. If your biceps are failing before your back here you have three options, 1) use trial and error with different angles and form until you find an angle that works for you 2) strengthen the fuck out of your biceps using isolation work until they are strong enough to transfer maximum tension to the back. 3) work on your neurological connection with the muscle group, think of pulling through your elbows rather than your hands, picture your hands as hooks, imagine touching your elbows behind your back.

Minimising scapula movement is going to really allow you to maximally contract the lats and hold tension in the sweet spot. Neurological connection is essential, and can be aided by focusing on driving the elbows down and back, rather than just back. this may not even change the way the movement looks to a massive extent, but it will help you find the lat and use it to move the weight.  Note: in most cases when focusing on back development, minimising elbow flexion will allow for more back work and less bicep intervention. Finally, once the form remains perfect, get stronger, always
