Kalamansi is the citrus 🍊 of the Philippines (a mix of the Mandarin fruit and kumquat). .
The fruit tends to accompany various dishes with its tarty profile. It’s perfect for:
1) a drink (sweetened in a similar way to lemonade)
2) compliment to a sauce
3) squeezed over savory dishes (such as the popular noodle dish, PANSIT which has strips of chopped vegetables and chicken /pork).
Kalamansi is commonly used when the peels are still green in color, the aromatic and tarty fruit is sliced and ready to go.
This #icecream flavor is based off of a very special moment to the founders of Cheeri Cheeri.
Their Lolo, (Tagalog for grandfather), had #Kalamansi trees grow in the backyard of their house in #losangeles . This was the first tangible interaction they had with a fruit you would normally see in Southeast Asia.
Their Lolo was #cheerful as he curated the importance and beauty that this fruit has...(all shared in such a way that excited & engaged his granddaughters at age 3 and 4).
He unknowingly created a moment that bridged the world of #la to #Philippines . This early and simple interaction with a fruit quickly became a sign of home.
