A Live Oak beginning to take shape for a bonsai. While collecting some Crepe Myrtle trees for bonsai several years ago, the homeowner asked me to dig out a live oak coming up as a weed next to her home. She had cut it back to the ground for years hoping to kill it, but it always came back. So I dug it up and diidn't think much about it until I got home and realized that the trunk was all below the soil, and years of decapitation created a wonderful old lumpy trunk with nice taper! I have since regrown all branches, trying to keep it twiggy. It is in an old pot which had its glaze shelled off during years of freezes, and is topped with a fluffy layer of coconut fiber over the soil to protect the roots from the summer heat. Coming along from nuisance to bonsai!
In the Instagram, the number of BONJIN plan has reached 10,000.
