After having a conversation with @bwlessard today about decor styles and @theminimalists I've decided that my style is maximumlist! As illustrated by this huge pile of work books in my living room. #DeliberatelyCluttered#Decor#BookNerd
“Anyone could have faith when everything was fine. But real faith meant believing, rain or shine.” 📖 #NovelsOfNewYork book ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ by Valentine Davies. Love pulling this 1947 copy out every holiday season! What are your go-to holiday reads?🎄🧣🎅
I usually acquire books through a combination of borrowing from my local library, university library, my church library, online, and buying books. That’s because sometimes a book only exists at a specific library - physical or online, costs too much to buy, or sometimes I buy because a book doesn’t exist at any library or because I want to own a copy of a book. Hence, I am so thankful all of these different resources exist ❤️. How do you get your hands on books that you want to read?
I’ll be starting Lie To Me tonight while I snuggle by the fire! It’s been a long work week and I’m happy to get some down time. I’m also almost done with Beast of Extraordinary Circumstances and I hope to finish that this weekend. I had already planned to read Lie To Me in November so I was happy to see that @saltwaterreads reads picked it for November too! What are you reading this weekend?
I picked this up after Ishiguro won the Nobel Prize for literature. I had only ever read his A Pale View of Hills, and loved the slow pace and unreliable narrator. This book, too, is slow paced. Most of it is the narrator recalling (with a hint of unreliability) past events. What resonated with me most about it was the subtle theme of inevitable cycling of history—private & world scale. Do you have a favorite Ishiguro?
How do you survive the week? What’s in your bibliophile bag of tricks (so to speak)? 📚
I had an interesting week, one in which I had to take a number and wait in line and then sit in a crowded room a couple times. That’s life. Sometimes you have to wait your turn.... BUT I refused to be bored. So I always grab a bag filled with necessities as well as current interests to keep me occupied. 📚
So let’s take a look at what my bag looked like this week:
🎒 The Tote Bag: @obviousstate Lord Byron, Bloom Collection. Just the right size for what I needed this week.
🎒 Make-Up Pouch: @starshollowmonthly, I always keep a small pouch with emergency essentials (eye drops, tampons, ibuprofen, gum, chapstick, hand sanitizer, etc) that I transfer from bag to bag easily.
🎒 Book: Of course I brought a book!!! And I’ve been trying out the new @bookbeau s I got and I’m loving them.
🎒 2nd Book Beau: So I’m always looking for off brand uses for things. This time i used my smaller @bookbeau to hold my correspondence (ie mail). I had some note cards to write and I’m always worried they’ll get bent! This is my new favorite use for a book beau!
🎒 Water Bottle: ‘Cause duh!
🎒 Charge Cords and Earphones: Again, ‘Cause duh!
I also had a variety of paperwork in my bag but it wasn’t pretty enough for the picture, plus it had all my personal info on it. 😂
And there you have it. My survival kit for the week! What do you keep in your bibliophile bag? 🎒
A couple of years ago, I chose "Mindfulness" as my word of the year, and it changed the way I approach life. That sounds, corny, but I'm serious :P Since practicing mindfulness, I’ve discovered:
1. The difference between “want to” and “have to.”
2. Living more simply.
3. Staying focused.
4. My own relationship with productivity.
5. How to follow my true passions.
6. A better writing system and routine.
With 2018 just around the corner, I've already started brainstorming what word I'll use as my focus so I can see even more personal growth. Anyone else already thinking of their word for 2018?
"The Court of Dreams.
The people who knew that there was a price, and one worth paying, for that dream. The bastard- born warriors, the Illyrian half breed, the monster trapped in a beautiful body, the dreamer born into a court of nightmares...And the huntress with an artist's soul."
A Court of Frost and Starlight is definitely one of my most anticipated reads for 2018. It's going to be very hard, but I've decided to avoid all the spoilers - I managed to do this for ToD and everything was such a pleasant surprise! I really want to feel the same about ACOFAS.
I'm going to the SJM event on Wednesday and I've already started slightly panicking... I mean, I love her books to bits, and if I'm one of the 50 lucky ones, I'll probably pass out 🙄
🏷 #FanaticalBirdNov - Anticipated read
🏷 #FrenchieFantasyNovember - Magic
🏷 #BetweenNovembersPages - Fanart fun
🏷 #bookquotes17 - Capture friendship
“It was impossible, of course. But when did that ever stop any dreamer from dreaming?” Laini Taylor, Strange The Dreamer
I’ve got the day off! No work, no chores. Just reading and finishing up the scarf I’m currently crocheting. Not half bad, I would say 😉👌🏻
What are you guys reading over the weekend?

Theia's Moons Eyes Wide Shut
After years of rebuilding their lives after the sky people’s war, Malkia’s people are threatened with a new and mysterious enemy. Except this time, the savages are gliding towards them on foot with strength, speed, and powers unknown to them, creating a mayhem of panic among her friends and family.
As Malkia and her people travel across their broken and deserted world, racing away from the barbarians hot on their tails, they collide with the mystical creatures from ancient tales, dance along the path of uncertain death, and receive a startling reminder that they were never alone in the universe.
Life is not what it seems and as their eyes are forced open to the truth, the world as they know it crumbles beneath their feet. -Niki Livingston
I became Brucified back in 2007 on the Magic tour.. My Dad took me to see his concert & I haven’t stopped since. (I’ve seen him only 5 times: Montreal twice, Ottawa, Boston, and Nashville. Two of those front row!) When Bruce’s book was announced, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy because I knew that I would be hooked onto every word & every story. Day of release, I bought one for me and one for my Dad, because not only has Bruce inspired me in my craft and career but he has played a significant role in my Father & I’s relationship. I truly recommend reading his autobiography because he will take you back to the beginning, drive you from Jersey to California and back again and take you on a wild ride of how he became one of America’s greatest rock and rollers. Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce.

⭐ Whimsical reads ⭐
The Star-Touched Queen is a book I finished a couple of months ago, and I'm just amazed by how whimsical and magical it all felt. I was taken to a land far away where everything wasn't what it seemed, and you'd never know which mythical creature you'd encounter. This book just felt exotic, magical and whimsical to me, though I know some people found it excentric or too weird, I loved that aspect. A bit of unexpected spice never fails to hook me 💕
Do you know what I'm talking about? What are some of your favourite books that gave you this or a similar feeling? ⭐
Years after Clockwork Princess released, finally I got my hands on it! I knew the ending, I knew what happened to my babies, and it's so hard for me. I'm not sure I could survive this book 😂😂😂
Sooo, @dhirviepages and @angeliamercy tagged me to do #bookstacamtag : .

Here's another quote from Markus Zusak's talk this September. "When we love a book, it's ours." I think many people in the audience were nodding in agreement to this statement. I almost imagine a marriage of sorts to some books. I feel as though I love them so much that people can see them by just looking at me. Two of the books I love like this are Things Fall Apart and Grapes of Wrath. What's the book that's yours?
Book people are some of the best people on the planet!

Oi leitores, tudo bem?
Now that I'm on fall break I thought it was high time to share the main two (non-class) books I was able to read this semester. The first one was I Hate Everyone But You which is a super honest, funny, and insightful look at two best friend's very different freshman years of college. The other one was Turtles All the Way Down, which I'm sure you've all heard plenty about 🔶 What has your favorite fall release been? I'd love to know so I can maybe pick one or two of them up this week! #turtlesallthewaydown
