Do you have proper scapular patterning? As a trainer I’ve noticed some of my clients have little to no proper scapular movement (up/ downward rotation, elevation/depression and protraction/retraction). Disfunction in the scapula usually happens due to lack of #excercise#injury or just poor #posture . The most important function of the scapula is to help stabilize the shoulder during movement (think pulling/pushing) being able to stabilize through the scapula means you can reduce the risk of injury in daily activities. In this video you will see my client using a lacrosse ball for trigger point while going through scapula re-patterning. The lacrosse ball basically works out any knots or lactic acid that’s still in the area around the scapula. I highly suggest you start at the most sensitive spot near your scapula in order to see some quick results. I’ll post a more detailed version here in the coming week. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation please contact via email (in my bio). Looking forward to seeing your comments and results! FYI this can feel like a deep tissue massage so it may feel uncomfortable for some. Also please excuse the shaking I ended needing to demo part of the exercise while recording 😂
4 reasons why you should implement speed bag into your workout routine:
1. Hand eye coordination. Speed bag training is simply the best place for improving hand eye coordination. Its striking surface is very little and obviously, the training is very fast. Your hand and eye should work in harmony to maintain a certain pace.
2. Hand speed. Well, this one is pretty obvious. After all, it is called speed bag training and you set the pace. When you first start training, it probably will be very hard to maintain a certain pace. Don’t worry, just practice regularly and you’ll be surprised how good you get with time.
3. Cardio. Cardio doesn’t have to be boring! Working with a speed bag is super fun and it’s a great cardio workout. Try maintaining high pace and walking left and right while you’re hitting the bag. You can alternate your hands or work the same hand for periods of time. However you do it, just have fun and try to maintain high speed for as long as you can.
4. Last but not least, it’s a badass skill! Mastering it will make you feel good about yourself and that feeling is so addictive. You’ll feel like a main character of a new movie about boxing😎🥊 Look good, feel good, perform good, isn’t that what it’s all about!
LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE! 🥊
The boxing season has already begun and today, UCLA Boxing embarks on a journey for nationals where we will seek to bring back national titles in multiple weight classes back to UCLA where they belong! In order to increase our national title contention, our team will have to go up against the roughest and toughest opposition other universities have to offer in the months to come- the first of which will be at Rivals in the Ring 2017 where the headlining match will be UCLA vs. USC.
We can't get there alone, however. We need your help! By making a contribution to our Spark Crowdfunding campaign, you will help us alleviate the costs of the safety equipment and travel that is required to across the country and compete against other PAC-12 universities at various invitational bouts and tournaments throughout the boxing season. Together, we can beat USC; together we can go to nationals; and together we can BRING THE STRAP BACK TO UCLA!

Huge thank you to my awesome coworker @steven_bnb for helping me with my boxing game! It's just as fun to hit mitts as it is to hold them! Come check us out at @boxnburn to learn the basics of boxing while enjoying a killer workout! First class is free! 📹: @shark_bnb
The Sled: One of my favorite pieces of equipment in the gym. Great for increasing lower body strength and building speed & power.
_ Typically, athletes that train for greater speed and power require explosiveness to generate the power and perform at their peak. For sprinters, power lifters, baseball pitchers, boxers, etc. speed and power are essential.
_ In addition to athletic performance, training to produce power is as important for overall strength and muscle development too.
_ Advantages of using the sled:
_ With a sled, you can move some serious weight without the associated risks that can come with the eccentric movements, deceleration and intricate technique of traditional lifting equipment. Therefore there isn't as much technique that needs to be understood for many sled exercises. Almost anyone can do them, from pro to beginner.
_ Performance & Functional Strength
_ I like how the sled is purely a performance tool, it’s not about maxing out or failure, it’s about being able to keep moving the weight at the highest rate of speed possible. With power sled pushes, rows & drags, naturally a lot of lower-body power is required, but also a neutral spine and engaged core. The sled is also great for improving shoulder, hip and ankle stability which are all essential for efficiency and transferring force to the sled.
_ Naturally, acceleration is crucial to many sports, which is why sled training is so often used in sports performance. Alongside free sprinting, weights, plyometrics and resisted sprinting, it is second to none for speed training.
_ I will often include both isometric & plyometric exercises with sled training, either before or after the sled push or drag, and even in between with no rest between exercises, but usually include a long rest between sets.
_ Depending upon your strength level and the friction of surface, a general rule of thumb for the load should be between 0.75 and 1.25 times your bodyweight.
This is my Passion
2017 has been a huge year for the @BoxNBurnAcademy, we’ve hosted 12 certification course around USA! We did Vegas, Santa Monica, Orlando, Austin, Phoenix, San Jose, CA right by San Francisco and back in LA a few times! And we just 1 week out from launching our Online Certification course_______
The 2018 schedule won't be out until later this year, but we are looking at traveling internationally, UK, Australia maybe Canada, anywhere else? haha
We want to pass the knowledge around the world and show people how to teach boxing as a form of fitness!
