The past couple of weeks we've been sorting/ organizing our trout brood stock and giving them their routine inoculations. Over 1000 fish have been sorted and inoculated as prep before spawning begins next week.
This is basically how the inoculations are done: the fish soak in an anaesthetic bath until they're unconscious (to minimize stress to the fish and make them easier to handle), they get their antibiotic needle, then they're released back into their troughs where they recover usually within 30 seconds to a minute.
You can see that the fish is also scanned for its PIT tag at the same time. The PIT tag tells us when the fish is likely to be ready for spawning.
