Inktober Day 12: “Shattered”
Brush + Ink

“Lord Aragorn… Where is he?”
I’m over a week behind, but hey, here’s my latest Inktober piece, this time for the prompt #Shattered . While there are quite a few shattering occurrences in the films (like Narsil beneath Sauron’s boot or the Evenstar hitting the ground), I think this one stands out to me the most. After hearing Gimli’s reply regarding the fate of Aragorn, the expression that shows up on #Éowyn ’s face quite clearly reflects the breaking of her heart, which is as shattered as shattered gets. Despite knowing that Aragorn is doing just fine, this movie scene kills me every time. Our beloved #Shieldmaiden is literally on the verge of breaking down, but the tears welling up in her eyes hold fast. I particularly wanted to make sure I captured wateriness in her eyes here, as they alone speak volumes about how she’s feeling at that moment. Her fair skin and her long & wavy blonde locks made this tedious to shade, but I think it turned out quite nicely.
As mentioned in my insta-story/tweets, I livestreamed myself inking this, specifically because being on camera/in front of an audience is always a good motivation to get back on track, and increased my productivity (as in, I didn’t waste time getting distracted by various things). The most wonderful folks who kept me company endured my voice when I babbled, and otherwise listened to my changing music choices for over 4 hours straight. I appreciate each and every one of you who stopped by, and I can’t thank you enough. I absolutely will do another one of these soon, and as I said on my stream, I will definitely finish my Inktober set, even though it’ll be well past the month’s end. I’d love to make this a regular thing if there’s enough interest. We’ll see how that goes.
