A roasted plum predawn sky at the Jefferson Memorial from a few weeks ago
The marble structure was completed in 1943 and on the inside, the bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson was installed in 1947. A plaster cast painted bronze had been a stand-in due to material shortage during WWII
Hello there, Crapper Family! I’m sorry for the hiatus - my phone fell down a cliff then slid into a river. ANYWAYS! My plan was to make an epic comeback to the instagram game with a nice mirror pic. Unfortunately, the mirror @ghibellinadc is the least functional thing I’ve ever seen in a bathroom. Maybe next time! Look out for more posts and tell your friends to follow. Shoot me DMs with requests/suggestions!

Its 2:00 a.m. in Washington DC. Normally, the epicenter of DC known as ‘Capitol Hill’ is teeming with activity. Large swaths of sightseers’ flood to the monuments while busy politicians and government employees head to meetings.
But not now. Now, the anxious tourists are sleeping soundly in preparation for the next day’s sightseeing. The partygoers are retiring for the night, homebound after an evening of debauchery and regret. Other than a handful of disoriented drunkards, the streets are desolate.
Meanwhile, Abraham Lincoln dutifully remains in his place at the foot of Capitol Hill, keeping watch over the rest of the brightly illuminated monuments that stand proudly on the otherwise dark and empty landscape. The sight of Honest Abe sitting all alone in the dark alludes to eerie childhood memories of walking through a neighborhood on Halloween night. An unspoken spookiness.
Indeed, exploring Capitol Hill at 2:00 a.m. is a unique way of experiencing the Washington DC monuments. No tourists blocking the view, no scathing heat of the sun, no noise or distractions, just complete solitude within a sacred place that is normally teeming with activity. Truly, the chiaroscuro of this early-morning scene warrants a visit to DC.
