Perfect last seminar @TexSom for me, as I got to listen to George Skouras @skourasdomaine talk about how he got into the wine business, why he chose to blend his Aghioritiko with Cabernet Sauvignon, and be our guide through the vintages of 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010. An extra bonus was to hear his son Dmitri talk about his involvement, giving us a small glimpse into the future of Domaine Skouras and Nemea. If you've been foolish enough to dismiss Greek wines, you need to try these wines and see what you have been missing out on! #GetSomm#drinkGreek#MegasOenos#Aghioritiko#CabernetSauvignon#texsom#texsom2017
For our last session of the day, Team Amphitheater prepared this vertical of @skourasdomaine Megas Oenos for our seminar with George Skouras and his son Dmitri. I've always enjoyed these wines in their youth and have heard many times of how well these wines can age. Here was that moment to finally be able to have such an experience with this iconic Greek wine alongside the owner and winemaker. Unreal! #GetSomm#drinkGreek#MegasOenos#Aghioritiko#CabernetSauvignon
What do you get when you combine a 15 acre vineyard on the Silverado Bench about 200 feet up from the valley floor at the base of Atlas Peak owned by a former math professor with a team of winemaker Dave Phinney (of Orin Swift, GKG, Stanton) and viticulturalist Steve Matthiasson (Araujo, Chappellet, David Arthur, and Spottswoode to name a few)? Aftermath. I'm not sure if the name was ominous or fortuitous, but Jim Kaplan's first vintage was 2011, which was notoriously difficult. His 2012 vintage was completely lost to the 2014 earthquake. The result is indeed the aftermath...
The 2013 is a blueberry, blackberry, and blackcurrant explosion, with the fallout being licorice, white flowers, cedar, and cacao nibs, with enough of an herbaceous tilt to give an exotic edge. Fans of Phinney's Papillon and Mercury Head, and frankly Napa Cabs in general should seek this out.

#perfectend to #myday ... #redwine#horseheavenhills 2014 #cabernetsauvignon and #tarot LOVE MONEY HOME #spread ... my significator the #fourofswords a #knight lies resting between the strife having already occurred, but before the real battle. Its theme over my reading is to be at rest from stress; there is no need to continue conflict at the moment, but I am ready LOVE is the #pageofswords suggesting people will be helpful, and it is a time to be alert and take the advice of others who act as advocates on my behalf. MONEY #card is the #knightofswords and he is in an unfinished battle prepared to stare down the enemy and fight. There are unpredictable, tempestuous times ahead, a roller coaster of drama, highs and lows and tension with family. I may be responsible for the cause, but it focuses on how I will recover. HOME is #fourofcups and is associated with restlessness and boredom. The cloud is offering a new start, but I am refusing to acknowledge the offered cup. Looking discontentedly at the three cups as if to imply a fourth cup will only be more of the same old thing. Regardless of the beautiful day and blue skies, I sit with skepticism. The tree of life suggests love and support is there, if I chose it. The #numberfour is the number of stability, which in cups, the suit of emotions, indicates inertia. The four of cups shows an underlying restlessness, a feeling that something is not quite right, but habit keeps me from pulling the trigger #soright#learningtoread#reading#intuitive#intuition#novice#learn#learning#photobomb#peekaboo#mystery#cards#cats
