Wind or in this case, a ever so slight breeze can be the enemy of large format film with its typically slow exposures and so there ended up being several flowers with a slight blur. I decided to scan the sheet anyway, because I was super impressed with how the negative film, Ektar 100, more than handled the dynamic range in this scene. This would have been challenging for a digital single exposure, much less film. Continuing to be impressed.

☀️ Zephyr squash is easily distinguished by its slender crooked shape and its signature two-toned appearance. It's tender creamy-yellow hued flesh is rich in dry matter and has a sweet and nutty flavor with a slightly grassy finish. #specialtyproduce#farmersmarkettruck#cagrown
Lodi peeps, let's talk about plants today at the farmers market. Come see me, right across from the post office, for pretty much all the botanical, medicinal and culinary plants your heart desires. I'll be your shoulder to cry on over all of those ikea succulents you've killed. #therethere
Exploring local backroads is a favorite pastime and on this particular evening, I drove through five counties before ultimately stopping at this Sutter County rice field.

✨Vegetable spotlight: ONIONS✨
A true powerhouse that contains quercetin (a flavonoid antioxidant) to fight cancer + destroys osteoclasts (bone-breaking cells) to prevent osteoporosis! As much as I want to cry every time I use onions in a recipe, they are honestly one of my favorite veggies to cook with. Add into scrambled eggs, a sandwich, pot pie, or simply caramelized (🤗 my fave honestly)! So worth the onion breath every time!!! 😜
Got back 18 sheets of developed film tonight and surprisingly enough, no double exposures and all were properly exposed and focused. Progress feels good 😊

I HAVE AN ECHINACEA BLOOMING!!! (Please excuse me while I do a little dance!)
This plant has had an epic journey, and in all honesty, I’m super surprised it’s still alive!
In winter of 2015, I started several flats of seeds. I planted about half of them into my garden in spring 2016, but the rest I put into 4” pots, intending to put into a butterfly garden that I hadn’t yet built. Fast forward 5 months and we found out we had to move from my urban farm, so I gave up on projects, and these were still in their pots. I brought them when we moved to Sacramento in January, 2017, and stuck them in the ground in a random spot just to get them out of their pots.
And now one of them is blooming! Echinacea purpurea, or purple coneflower, is one of my favorite ‘multi-purpose’ plants. It attracts bees, butterflies and beneficial insects, it’s a great cut flower, AND you can use the flowers and the roots medicinally. One day, I’ll have large swatches of this plant growing in my herb gardens!
