Sammi Tesfazgi, left, and Rilind Tahiri stood in the dock alongside the teen
A 16-year-old boy was today jailed for at least 20 years for the “assassination” of a low-level drug dealer in front of stunned shoppers.
The teenager, who can not be named because of his age, shot 21-year-old Yasir Beshira in a side street off Kilburn High Road in December last year.
He was found guilty of murder at the end of an two-month Old Bailey trial in October.
Sammi Tesfazgi, 21, of Lithos Road, West Hampstead, was described as the “mastermind of an assassination”. He was also found guilty of murder and today sentenced to a minimum of 27 years in prison.
Rilind Tahiri, 22, of North Road, Islington, drove the teen to and from the killing in a stolen Range Rover, which was later torched in an attempt to cover their tracks. He was found guilty of manslaughter and today jailed for a minimum of 14 years.
POLICE units on patrol in Gospel Oak say they have been ‘shocked’ at the size of the weapons discovered stashed in the area over the last week.
Officers revealed images of large combat blades that had been found hidden in shrubbery during their walkabout. The knives are thought to be used by drug dealers operating in the area. One of the weapons was found alongside a large quantity of cannabis. #camden#london#inthemanor
MOPED raiders armed with a large knife targeted two Camden supermarkets last night, threatening staff and demanding they empty the tills in a 15-minute crime spree.
In the first attack at around 9:20pm, a suspect jumped over the counter at a Tesco store in England’s Lane, Belsize Park, and waved the knife at staff before making off on the back of a moped with handfuls of cash.
Around 15 minutes later it is believed the same men repeated the crime at a store in Kilburn High Road, again threatening staff until they opened the tills.
One customer at the England’s Lane Tesco, who asked not to be named, said: “I was at the till and my items had just been bagged up when this guy in a grey tracksuit and hoody and dark mask jumped over the till and took out a kitchen knife, it was about 20cm. “He was swinging it at the cashier and telling them to open the till. The cashiers tried to confine him to the area behind the counter. One cashier threw a plastic crate at the guy, but he kept on swinging the knife at them, threatening to stab them.” She said that most customers were able to flee the shop while the robbery was still in process, adding: “Everyone calmly exited. It was a very British situation.” Detectives believe the two robberies are linked. No arrests have been made.
Concerns have previously been raised about the increasingly violent attacks that in recent weeks have seen hammer-wielding moped robbers target customers in cafés and bars.
Labour Assembly Member Andrew Dismore told police chiefs at City Hall last month: “The concern I have is we have now seen this new trend of business premises, shops, cafés, being besieged, broken into and stormed by moped-enabled villains. “It seems to me that the moped thieves are becoming more inventive, more aggressive, more brazen, more violent and consequently as this constituent indicates, more frightening.” #camden#moped#london#inthemanor
A MAN was knocked down by a suspected moped thief in Camden Town.
The 44-year-old victim, an Italian national, was rushed to hospital shortly after midnight on Friday after being hit by a moped in Camden High Street, near Camden Lock.
The moped, which is believed to have been stolen, was left abandoned at the scene and the rider ran off on foot.
The victim is being treated in hospital for injuries, which are described as “non-life threatening”. #camden#london#moped
AN AUDACIOUS heist at a Kentish Town dry cleaners has netted thieves a reported £74,000 in untraceable cash, the New Journal has learned.
Police are investigating after thieves targeted the family-owned shop on the corner of Kentish Town Road and Regis Road at the start of November – and emptied a newly-installed cash machine. The money was stolen just moments from the spot where Kentish Town police station officers park their blue-light response cars. Officers say they have made no arrests and inquiries are continuing.
The New Journal has learned that the raiders hit the shop’s ATM, which is accessed by customers from the street but backs into the dry cleaners’ reception area, after it had been loaded up with fresh notes during the day.
According to police, thieves broke into the back of the shop, The Kleen Machine, some time between midnight and when the owners opened up first thing next morning. They would have clambered in without setting off alarms via a window or door that is a stone’s throw from the area where cars based at Holmes Road police station are parked.
A shop worker, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was terrible. The machine had just been refilled that day. Whoever it was came in through the back and emptied it. It was really quite a shock for everyone.” A police spokesman said: “There was a report of a burglary at a business premises at the start of November, with people forcing their way in through the rear. “They stole a number of items from a cash machine. A forensics team has looked at the premises and inquiries are continuing.” Police would not confirm reports that the haul was as much as £74,000.
Owners of the dry cleaners, in the same family for more than 25 years, were unavailable for comment yesterday #camden#london
