#Sardinia is a fragile place that straggles between #capitalistsociety and #traditions and its own culture. What we have is our #island and #nature and history and we want to save them from #massturism!
Please help us: #RespectSardinia 🙏🏾

Its official, I love #Shanghai 💍, or at least the independence and happiness it's allowed me. Granted the beginning was a little tough, espeically that time I discovered tiny bits of pork in my eggplant the morning after #donteatindarkrestaurants #dontletpeopleorderforyou #itwasntgingersherraine #stillvegan, and I'll never get used to the incessant staring, like everyone's doing as they pass me on this bench writing. And can't forget that creep who lives 10 floors above me but came out of the elevator to stand in the shadows and watch me walk into my apt. If he tried anything though I could deff take him👊. But yea, this experience wouldn't have happened had England not been aggressive little shits and stolen/"#colonized" my home land lol btw feel free to DM me if you want info on teaching english abroad. Not trying to pretend I'm out here catching flights without a job.
& this was a view from my first home❤️
Moral of the story, do what you want and let your soul lead you. It sucks that we have to balance that with living in a #capitalistsociety, but its possible, just dont get caught up in chasing money. The laughs I had with the people I just met and the warmth you feel from holding your love's hand is what we remember, not the overpriced, unethically made material shit thats gathering dust in our closets.
Anyways ❤✨ #china #blackinchina #jamaicaninchina #musings #blackinshanghai

It has been estimated that over 80%Americans carry BPA or BisphenolA in their system as the byproduct of a plastic society. Picked this up in a "free" book box in San Francisco. Insightful, worth the read, and now I know why it was left there... There's truth in it, such as the author's explicit adoration for the Earth and individualistic expression. This is eventually contradicted, neglected and unacknowledged by her support for laissez-faire. There is also absolute egregious, asinine, inane, underdeveloped, regressive (makes sense in 1938, but really what is our excuse now) ideals and propaganda. Interesting to see a capitalist skew and denounce the alternatives as if that somehow makes her dogma more resilient.... but then again... Tr*mp has done exactly so to a much higher degree.... #apeakintoegoism #capitalistsociety #giveitaread #staywoke

May 1, 1886, would mark the first day that an eight-hour workday would go into effect.

Economic slavery, or wage slavery, refers to one’s total and immediate dependence on wages to survive.
We automatically accept a 40-hour workweek with meager hourly pay as normal, even though many work overtime and still struggle to survive. There are also those who make enough to live comfortably but are unable to request less hours—you either work 40 hours a week, or you don’t get to work at all. We submit when told what to wear, when we have to arrive and depart, when we’re allowed to eat, and even when we’re allowed to use the restroom.
The 40-hour-work week came about during the Industrial Revolution in Britain when at one point workers were putting in 10 to 16 hour days and began to protest. Working situations for Americans began to worsen as well, and by 1836, labor movement publications were also calling for a 40-hour workweek. Citizens in both situations were so overworked, an eight-hour day was easily accepted. This system is unnecessary now, if it ever was, but we still accept it due to the effects of our capitalist society.

Inside cover page of #ApertureMagazine, issue 225 'On Feminism' - an extract from 'Photography Against the Grain' by #AllanSekula:
•
'In capitalist society, artists are represented as possessing a privileged subjectivity, gifted with an uncommon unity of self and labor. Artists are the bearers of an autonomy that is systematically and covertly denied the economically objectified mass spectator, the wageworker and the woman who works without wages in the home. Even the apparatus of mass culture itself can be bent to this elitist logic. “Artists” are the people who stare out, accusingly and seductively, from billboards and magazine advertisements. A glamorous young couple can be seen lounging in what looks like a SoHo loft; they tell us of the secret of white rum, effortlessly gleaned from Liza Minelli at an Andy Warhol party. Richard Avedon is offered to us as an almost impossible ideal: bohemian as well as his “own Guggenheim Foundation.” Artist and patron coalesce in a petit-bourgeois dream fleshed-out in the realm of a self-valorizing mass culture. Further, the recent efforts to elevate photography unequivocally to the status of high art by transforming the photographic print into a privileged commodity, and the photographer, regardless of working context, into an autonomous auteur with a capacity for genius, have the effect of restoring the “aura,” to use Walter Benjamin’s term, to a mass-communications technology. At the same time, the camera hobbyist, the consumer of leisure technology, is invited to participate in a delimited and therefore illusory and pathetic creativity, in an advertising induced fantasy of self-authorship fed by power over the image machine, and through it, over its prey.'
