As a single parent there's often a stigma attached, yet when people réalisé why you made a choice to go alone, their judgements turn to despair.
#jaclynhillchristmas asked to know more about our single parent family . . .
I gave birth to my son in Tahiti after spending 7 months pregnant alone in Australia, I thought a new life with my husband would lead to happy days, but soon after the birth of my son, things turnt terribly wrong. Each day I was told to *#!k off, go home, that he never wanted a child. I was told he only married me because he felt sorry for me, after 10 months of abuse & isolation, I found the strength to pack up & leave, the escape from paradise is worthy of a book.
Once back in Australia I tried to find refuge, my sons father lied & said I kidnapped him, I was ordered to return to a violent situation. False promises were made, all in an attempt to frame me and see me serve 2 years of jail, I lived in a refuge and spent the next 6 years in 2 countries in 2 languages and my entire life savings to gain the custody of my son.
I returned to Australia where I raised my son whilst caring for my blind father, my father passed away 6 years ago and my mother has been gone now 34 years. My son and I moved to where we are now, 6 years ago, with no family, no friends and as a self employed single parent, I have had to work incredibly hard to rebuild my life to where I am now.
I made a choice to give birth to my son, as his Mum it was my responsibility to give him safe passage in this life, as every child deserves. I wouldn't change the choices that I've made, although hard, this experience taught me so much, I can not begin to share the gifts I have received from these years. The hardest recovery has been to watch others take for granted what they have, recovering from abuse, the inability to fully enjoy your child due to constant threats of them being taken from you, entering into a court system for years, living with the anxiety of the chance your child will be taken from you due to laws that you have no control over, it's nice to finally enjoy my son
& raise him the best I can, to be a valuable member of the community

Mother and son: this pair statue shows the Queen Mother Tiaa and her son, Men-kheperu-Re Thutmose (IV). The queen mother (whose name means "the great") rose from obscurity to supreme power in just a few years. At first, Tiaa was a secondary wife of king Amunhotep II; her son was a low-ranked prince. But when the king died without naming his heir, Tiaa and Thutmose acted quickly to secure power. Soon after, the pair were ruling Egypt side-by-side, and did so until Tiaa's death around 1411 BCE #family#power#care
