This Place. I love everything about it. From the sea of sagebrush rolling out east to the fire ridden pine forests at the entrance to the High Cascades. Fire brings destruction brings new life, in a never ending dance. Without disturbance, abundance is suppressed. This Abrahamic cultural landscape undermines abundance with every move it makes. Scarcity must prevail for salvationist pursuits. Humans concerned with living rooted in Place have always utilized fire in pine ecosystems from turtle island to my ancestral homelands. While many resist the devastation that ensues, and land management practices cater to the weakhearted scarcity creators (though the Deschutes basin is slowly breaking this pattern), I smile knowing how lands of pine respond to fire. Every fire that rages is a small win in a much larger struggle. This one burned right through our favorite hunting grounds. I think of the density that needed to be cleared in many zones. We knew this area intimately. The herds will benefit as will much life. I only wish the hardworking firefighters hadn't stopped it from accessing my elderberry ridge and saskatoon slopes. They are slowly being drowned out. Next time. #volcanovortex#cascadia#placebased#centraloregon#bloodandsoil#countrybumpkin#bioregionalism#wearenotalone#outcreate#wegotthis
Today I bought a used book about Magellan and it reminded me that I have dreams.
Away from the wilderness for a bit and love grows fonder. People that know me know I can't stop talking about it. I dream of it each night. Anonymous forays into the hills. Quiet walks, breathless silences - but then bad memories coming on like fire engines.
But their heat is dissipated by the cool of the leaves, absorbed into the still earth and rushing water and washed away for a while.
In my dreams the wilderness keeps beckoning toward me gently, saying, "I'm gonna keep you in love with me for a while." #pnw#pnwcollective#cascadiaexplored#mtnsnow#mtbaker#hiking#washingtonexplored#whatcomtalk#northcascades#cascadia#snowshoeing
