Roslin Castle (sometimes spelt Rosslyn) is a partially ruined castle near the village of Roslinin Midlothian, Scotland. It is located around 9 miles south of Edinburgh, on the north bank of the North Esk, only a few hundred metres from the famous Rosslyn Chapel.
There has been a castle on the site since the early 14th century, when the Sinclairfamily, Earls of Caithness and Barons of Roslin, fortified the site, although the present ruins are of slightly later date. Following destruction during the War of the Rough Wooing of 1544, the castle was rebuilt. This structure, built into the cliffs of Roslin Glen, has remained at least partially habitable ever since. The castle is accessed via a high bridge, which replaced an earlier drawbridge. Roslin was renovated in the 1980s and now serves as holiday accommodation.

. “To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep
No more; and by a sleep, to say we end
the heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks
that Flesh is heir to? 'Tis a consummation
devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep,
To sleep, perchance to Dream; aye, there's the rub,
for in that sleep of death, what dreams may come,
when we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
must give us pause. There's the respect
that makes Calamity of so long life”

■ Neuschwanstein Castle 🇩🇪 - Fairy-tale version (page 1 - from a cliff)
- Normal version (page 2 - on the bridge)
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl named Cinderella and a Castle..
Neuschwanstein castle inspired Walt Disney to create ‘Cinderella Castle’ and ‘the Magic Kingdom’ because of its fairytale look.
The castle, literally means “New Swan Castle”, is located in Bayern, near the town of Fussen. It was built by King Ludwig II of Bayern and its interior were inspired by Wagner’s opera characters.
One magical early morning at Leeds Castle. The night before the weather forecast for the morning was mist, when I got there before dawn it was dense fog. But it became one of my most memorable visits of my year long commission for the castle.

✨🏛 On this day 🏛✨
On this day in ...1944 British paratroops withdraw from Arnhem in the Netherlands ...a bridge too far.
Operation Market Garden (17–25 September 1944) was an unsuccessful Allied military operation, fought in the Netherlands and Germany in the Second World War.
The operation made massed use of airborne forces, whose tactical objectives were to secure the bridges and allow a rapid advance by armoured ground units to consolidate north of Arnhem. The operation required the seizure of the bridges across the Maas (Meuse River), two arms of the Rhine (the Waal and the Lower Rhine) together with crossings over several smaller canals and tributaries. Several bridges between Eindhoven and Nijmegen were captured at the beginning of the operation.
At the furthest point of the airborne operation at Arnhem, the British 1st Airborne Divisionencountered initial strong resistance. The delays in capturing the bridges at Son and Nijmegen gave time for German forces, including the 9th and 10th SS panzer divisions who were present at that time, to organize and retaliate. In the ensuing battle, only a small force managed to capture the north end of the Arnhem road bridge and after the ground forces failed to relieve them, the paratroopers were overrun on 21 September. The remainder of the 1st Airborne Division was trapped in a small pocket west of the bridge, having to be evacuated on the 25th of September.
The heroism of the British and Polish paratroops in attempting to liberate Arnhem from Nazi tyranny is remembered to this day by the people of Arnhem. ✨🏛 @fiftyshades_of_history 🏛✨ 👉🏼 @ baedavenerabalis 👈🏼
