My motto for the year! Unlike your physical height, you don't stop growing as a person (mentally and emotionally) but you can't grow if you're surrounded by limiting thoughts and friends that oppress your growth. Filtering redundant attachments, thoughts and belongings creates room for new heights and the way to do that is to refer back to your core values and aspirations - let them guide you when making decisions about what to keep, what to let go of and what to invite. FYI: By virtue of intention, you'll find that those who aren't ready to evolve will automatically move away anyway. They'll struggle in your presence. They'll criticise and judge. They'll envy and begrudge. They'll gossip and backstab. They'll misconstrue and blame because they're viewing you from their own limiting fears, insecurities, thoughts and beliefs (they're own skewed reality). Don't judge them because we're all entitled to our own growth-speed and journeys... just keep moving forward and whoever is ready, will catch up with you. It's like being at an intermediate level in french but continuously taking a beginners class over and over and over. Over the past few years it hasn’t been as bad, but every now and again, usually when I’m super anxious I’ll pick until they bleed or it’s too painful. Figuring out why skin picking, which I consider a form of self-harm, and a coping mechanism to deal with anxiety has been a huge part of my recovery from mental health problems. I've developed many coping skills to help myself heal, but they don't always work, and I'm learning to be at peace with that. The most important thing for me is that I'm dedicated to healing and I take my mental health very seriously.
The hardest question I've ever really had to answer was from my son. "why do you have those band-aids on your fingers daddy?" Not an easy question to answer to a little kid, and one I haven't found the right words to describe. I've said things like, oh I cut or scrapped myself. Since the worst of my skin picking is definitely behind me, and I always covered them up with bandaids, I was able to hide the worst of it.
I think it's important for people to be aware that these issues are complex, and there are many ways we can heal from them. When our focus is on the healing and what we can do to help ourselves, we're empowered and we can thrive regardless of our challenges. I hope this campaign and your work continues to do that! TW personal post: I don’t often do these sorts of posts but I know a lot of people are finding things hard right now and I just wanted to reassure you all that your not alone. We all have difficult and challenging times when giving up seems like the only option and the easiest. I know this only too well but after my hypno session today I realise it’s the strength inside us that we need to use to help turn situations around. We all have the capability to either sabotage ourselves or make ourselves better, stronger, happier and ultimately we only have those options. Do we use our strength and determination for good or for destruction? I know which path I want, although it’s not always the easiest and my mind tries to trick me into not wanting it I know deep down it’s the only way to get to a happier and healthier future where life can be exciting and filled with joy. I’m just trying to say, you have more strength that you even know and you can change things for the better if you take it one day at a time and focus on the positive steps that you make. I wanted to share a short post about me because I haven’t introduced myself properly and I wanted to tell you guys a bit about who I am and what I want my Instagram to be about.
The first thing I want to say is I want to stay true to myself and so I’ve been trying hard to make my posts genuine and authentic.
I worked as an Assistant Psychologist for many years across a range of different services and now I’m a practicing cognitive behavioural therapist.
My posts reflect my mood or the conversations I’ve had during my day... I wanted to share a bit about who I am as well which is why between each quote I want to share pictures about the things I value, have interest in, or am passionate about.
I want to share some of my knowledge with other therapists and with people who might value it, but I don’t expect everyone to agree with what I say and I’d love to hear your stories and opinions too as that’s truely how we grow and learn.

What we do in one thing is often what we do in almost everything. While the specific situations may differ from one another, the cognitive process that we go through to execute a behavior is very similar based on a structured internal system.
How do you train your patterns of thinking to enhance your quality of life?
What is your daily practice to discipline your mind?
Who we ARE is strongly nurtured based on how we associate with certain thoughts and selectively latch onto various perceptions. This pattern of thinking and focus influences our self-concept and views of the world. Once we actively improve our capacity to spot the over-simplifications of unduly thoughts - the thoughts, itself, which does not serve us, can naturally fall away like leaves from a tree, even before it influence our external behaviors.
But, forcing positivity into our minds can easily backfire, as many of us know.
So how do we dismantle the negative mindset traps? That’s the big question.
The truth is - You don’t have to believe every thought that enters your mind.

Meditation is probably the healthiest and most effective long-term coping strategy for stress, and we have more than enough of that in today’s world. Second – and this, I believe, is critical – it provides the practitioner with the ability to look at self, other and world in a much more objective way. It allows understanding outside of our emotional reactions. So instead of falling into the hysteria that recently has been roiling our culture, why not find a way to walk through, eyes open, alert, healthy and ready for what life has in store of us?
