so glad i got at it today. it has been so hard to workout #chaargabroad , but ever time i do, i remember how great it makes me feel. this was a rough week, + the next few will continue to be. i'm glad i'll have bootycamp to hold me accountable + help me relieve stress. today gave me confidence in myself + how much i can accomplish this summa! love #chaarg so much.
Lesson 3: the road to normal eating is not linear, and that is OK -- The reason I preach so much about listening to your body and going with the food/exercise flow is because I have struggled with disordered eating since I was in high school and hearing things similar to what I say from others really helped/helps me. This past year I made huge strides in finally being able to stop measuring my food and counting calories and restricting and actually listen to my body and eat intuitively and be okay with/love whatever my body is doing/looking like. But being in a different place and having different food options and limitations has been triggering. SO today I am taking a day for self mf care because NO MORE. This is all of the delicious and "abnormal" food I have eaten here that I have felt guilty/worried about, but looking back on these foods now, I am choosing to remember great times with new friends and delicious new vegan options not found at home and nourishing my body, instead of focusing on what they may be calorie-wise and trying to make up for them. If any of you are struggling with this or similar stuff, know that it does get better AND that is okay to not feel okay sometimes. Lesson 2: be yourself, do what feels good, and stand for what you believe. Where this comes from: i try to be mostly vegan and gf because it makes feel amazing and I know I am eliminating carbon waste and saving lives, but people can get so judgy about it so I was worried that that would happen while studying abroad as well. However, it didn't. In fact there are SO many healthy vegan options EVERYWHERE that actually consist of more than a side salad, and my new found friends don't make it a big deal. I also am SO self conscious about my pointy, long German nose, and today I got complemented on it and it was called perfect. Like wut. Iedk. I just feel like when we DGAF and be ourselves and do what we truly want and love, all of that positive energy will come back to us in ways we never thought. Lesson 1: I have routines. I have things that I do every day that if I don't do I get stressed about. I am a "nerd". I do my homework and I do it well and I study a lot. But what I have learned so far in Copenhagen is that sometimes the things you think you need to do the most are the exact opposite of what you actually need to do to grow. Today instead of hitting the books right after class and going for a run, I went with my new found friends and got lost on a bus ride, climbed to the top of a castle, ate delicious vegan falafel by the harbor, took the metro for the first time here, and made connections that were so fulfilling. THIS is what I needed to do in order to grow today. This might not be the same tomorrow or the day after, but it was today. According to certain Hindu traditions, silk can be worn to guard the body from negative energies and evil spirits. This concept really resonated with me. I personally don't believe in the literal practice of this tradition, but I am constantly striving to protect myself from all sorts of ~negative energies.~ My insecurities, my negative thoughts, and the destructive input from people or things around me threaten to take hold of the way I live my life. I bought this silk scarf for myself here in India as a symbol of positivity and self-care. I have been learning some beautiful things from India's culture, traditions, and people, and am so excited to continue my journey for the next couple of weeks. .
