If you know me, you know Mondays are my favorite day of the week. Fresh start, beginning of a new week, great time to make a change. Today has been a challenge, but a good run & an attitude adjustment has made it much better! 🏃🏽♀️
Met up with my stroller mama’s for a 55 minute run to start my day! It was 40 with wind gusts up to 50 mph—so tough running conditions, but we all felt so badass after tackling those miles! 💪🏽
Spent the rest of the day cuddling the toddler who is still getting over the flu! Instead of getting overwhelmed by everything I’m behind on, I asked for help. I stopped worrying about the chores piling up, held my baby & asked for help. It wasn’t easy but it was the best decision I made. Now GO AWAY flu! 😷
Mondays, love ‘em or hate ‘em? .
W4D1: Recovery miles postponed from yesterday! I like to keep Mondays rest days cause they're my longest work day, but I just didn't find time for these miles yesterday #lifehappens Happy Monday, friends!!!
“Just because something seems overwhelming at the time doesn’t mean it’s not possible!” Saved that encouraging reminder by @chaoticscott, from his interview with @rambling_runner last month, and it has been the PERFECT motivation for me this weekend and on today’s run! Hope it’s inspiring for someone else today as well!
Every BIG accomplishment is reached by small steps taken every, single, day. #Makeitcount ! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 .
Today’s #morningworkout : 45-min #spinclass , then an easy (9:30)-paced 4-miles, before getting the kids to school. More speedwork tomorrow, which I’m once again a liiiittle nervous about, but I’m gonna channel the nerves into taking good care of myself today, so that I can be at my best for tomorrow morning.👍🏼💪🏼 Also, I’m in LOVE with these lights😍and have wanted to snap a pic of them all winter😬❄️! #CarolynDreamsofBoston#motivationMonday#chasingdreams#milesinthebank#marathontraining#hansonsmarathonmethod#onrunning#runningonclouds#thedistrictburlington
Am I doing this right? Hill repeats 😲 When I saw hill repeats on my schedule, I felt a little freaked out. The last time I ran hill repeats I was a high school cross country runner in the 90s. The workout: 1mi warm up, hill repeats .2mi long for miles 2-4, 1mi cool down. The attack was on the downhill. My marathon has some significant downhill, which sounds really awesome unless you aren’t prepared for it. So these workouts along with my addition of jumping rope are designed to get my legs in shape for attacking those downhills! This workout was actually fun and went by really quickly. #hillrepeats#hillsforbreakfast
#latergram : 10-mile long run this weekend, plus a little hip-opener stretch!
Generally kept at a comfortable, 9:30 pace; my RBF’s hip started to bother her at mile 6, so we slowed down a bit after that to help alleviate it.
Banking miles during LR’s these days always involve a mix of nervous anticipation and relief. Sometimes, I wonder, “will I ever get to run again WITHOUT aches or twinges? Or is this — and I hesitate to even *think* this — a new normal?” I honestly don’t know a clear or definite answer to that, but I DO know that I am MUCH more self-aware of my body and of how to take care of it, and as long as I am able, I will run my heart out, with gratitude, and continue to relish in amazement at the things it accomplishes every. single. day.
Nothing makes me happier than miles with this guy. 💕 Sometimes putting him in the stroller is the only way to calm him down & today was one of those days. Also, that weather!! Sunny & high 60’s!?! ☀️ I will take it!
Saturday’s are for long runs & naps, but Sunday’s are for a few shakeout miles & all the tasks! 🙌🏽 My main focus on Sundays is meal prep. 🥗 I plan our menu for the week-breakfast options, lunches for everyone & a plan for dinners. We spend around $21 a day (3 meals a day for 4 people-with voracious appetites). This year our goal is one dinner out a month.
Do you make a weekly menu? Favorite tips for budgeting? .
“Each step takes me closer to my goal”🔥(Well...goals, not goal😉) Today those steps were all recovery run steps! 5.1 recovery miles @ 10:29 avg pace (11:01, 10:35, 10:31, 10:10, 10:07) Love these slow paced days because they gear my legs up for my week’s hard workouts! This week I’ve got: •speed work, •hill repeats, •tempo⛰🏃🏼♀️ among other runs and strength training😊I take FULL ADVANTAGE of my easy days so my hard days are higher quality. Take easy runs as seriously as you take your speed workouts! I got passed by a bunch of runners today but I couldn’t care less😂 I’m running for my own goals and am setting PR’s each season so I won’t speed these up anytime soon!🐢Ready to conquer week 4 of training!🦄
Beautiful run this afternoon to finish out the week. Happy to have found a good group to run with, I used to be a solo runner but there’s so much value in having a pack to motivate, encourage, and run those longer miles with. Thanks @anshikarakesh and @shellycordova and friends!
I’m so glad I moved my long run days to Saturday because I don’t know how many brunch’s I’ve missed out on because I’ve always had to run. Today was brunch with my longtime bestie at @thehoneymoonhtx It was delish and so was the conversation 😘 #sundayfunday
5 miles through the city. I never get tired of seeing these beautiful bridges! Yesterday we took our daughter to see @cirquedusoleil Crystal. It was absolutely AMAZING! Being in the city convinced me that I have to run the @pghmarathon again this year. I’ve only missed it the years that I was pregnant. I signed myself up for the half since my goal marathon is a few weeks later. And Lilly is running the kids marathon! #runpgh#gameonpgh#cityofbridges
Hooray!! I made it to #runstreakday20 🎉🙌🏻🏃🏻♀️!! This week’s long run called for 3x2 miles @ 8:00 pace with 800m recoveries and I nailed every set until the final mile when some unpleasant hills and wind got me. 🤷🏻♀️ Splits were: 7:58, 7:57, 7:59, 7:58, 8:00, 8:13.
4miles. Easy runs until Wednesday, and then speed work starts again.
I feel like I'm starting over. This recovery crap is hard. 😳🤔 Working on our new schedules this week. I'm only planning a few half marathons this year, I'm planning Dopey in 2020. My love @ironbatdad_hebrews12_1 Is #chasingboston And I am helping him organize his plan for the #reveltherockies marathon in June.
PS: I annoy you with my running posts because I believe if you can what you are capable of over 45, you might jump in too! I didn't start running until after age 40, and my first marathon at 46! YOU can do it too!! #colfaxhalfmarathon#backofthepack#isaiah4031#runnermomof5
Physical strength will get you to the start line, but mental strength will get you to the finish line 🏁 9 miles today, and it wasn’t pretty. Super thirsty, groggy, heavy legs, drenched in sweat, slick roads, rain, and the list could go on BUT I got it done because I know how important the long run is and it’s a week before my @hotchocolate15k next weekend! Today wraps up 30.5 miles for the week! #andthatsawrap#naptime#OhWait#ihavetocleanmyhouse
Last week with the vests, this week with matching jackets. 👯♀️ Totally unplanned & I love it. We were both scrambling to make it to this run so we hadn’t even texted beforehand. Isn’t it nice to have someone you know will be at the long run waiting for you? 👊🏽 Accountability!
Today’s run was a hilly course & I loved the challenge. As if the hills weren’t enough, we also had HIGH winds. Only makes you stronger, right? 🙌🏽 I can definitely tell my strength is still lacking, but my endurance is great. I didn’t feel winded but my quads & glutes were on fire! 🔥
It’s the freaking weekend! Good luck to everyone racing & go kill your long run. 😘 #hilltraining#okclandrunners#runokc
W3D7: half marathon!🙌😃👊 It was chilly this morning at the Chilly Willy half😉 Started a little late, but was a fun, low-key race! Ran with my dad, and our goal was a long run with a medal at the end🎖 Finished 13.29 miles in 2:10:51👌 Now for food and a fun weekend!
Do you do January races? What's too cold for you to race in? I did a race on Chicago back in January 2016 that was in the single digits😨 Definitely the coldest I'd go!
Easy paced half marathon on the treadmill this morning!🏃🏼♀️💥👊🏼I planned to do this outside but with black ice everywhere I figured I’d be safe and hit the treadmill again. No regrets either! This was very relaxed and even though I was staring at a wall and the back’s of people in front of me, it was a great run! At the moment, all my long runs are scheduled at my easy pace (10+ min/mile), so I started at 11:06 pace and ended at 9:59 pace. Negative splits😜happy weekend!
My choice of cross training is on the bike. 🚲 I’m currently setup on the trainer & the majority of my rides are done when my boys are asleep—but I am looking forward to taking it to the roads this spring! 🚴♀️
Tonight’s workout was supposed to be some bike sprint intervals-but because I’m short on sleep & have been exposed to the flu all week, I decided to just do a 40ish minute ride at a moderate pace. Between my long run tomorrow & playing yoga catch up—there was no need to push myself too hard tonight. 💨
I talk about making things happen/getting sh*t done a lot-but I hope that never comes off as I’ve got it all together. This week I’ve spent the majority of my time sitting on the couch holding babes. 🛋 My workouts are my only ‘me time’ most days & that’s the big reason they’re priority—they’re every bit for my mental well being as they are for my physical well being. Dusting or getting caught up on laundry doesn’t give me all those same endorphins. DO WHAT YOU CAN, WHEN YOU CAN. 👊🏽 And I can do the house stuff when we run out of undies or someone’s coming by. 🙌🏽 You feel me? 😘 Happy Friday, happy weekend! .
One thing I'm really loving about kickboxing is that sense of being a beginner. I've been running for so long now that, sure paces and races are new, but most of the day to day is not. With kickboxing, I'm learning the right form, how to hit stronger, how to be more effective. It's challenging, but motivating👊
Don't get me wrong; I still love my running😉 Have a half marathon tomorrow, even! Chilly Willy Half right by my house, so it'll be a low-key race. I'm looking for fun, mileage, and a medal--so zero expectations👌
Are you racing this weekend?? Share👇🙌
Early morning reintroduction to some faster running. Warmed up, ran a series short, progressively faster intervals to get comfortable going faster, and finished up with a cool down & some stretching. Trying to be patient with the process. RunScribePlus showed decent balance considering it was a fast-on-the-treadmill-for-me run. #ChasingBoston#chasingasub3marathon#chasingexcellence
