Met up with my stroller mama’s for a 55 minute run to start my day! It was 40 with wind gusts up to 50 mph—so tough running conditions, but we all felt so badass after tackling those miles! 💪🏽

Spent the rest of the day cuddling the toddler who is still getting over the flu! Instead of getting overwhelmed by everything I’m behind on, I asked for help. I stopped worrying about the chores piling up, held my baby & asked for help. It wasn’t easy but it was the best decision I made. Now GO AWAY flu! 😷

Accept that not everyone will understand you, that every soul has its own equation. While you may be more than senseless gibberish to some, others will only need a single look to get a good grasp of who you are. Never dull, dumb down or adjust yourself to fit somewhere you don’t belong• -beau taplin... A lot of good things have been happening lately. A lot of things I have worked my ass off for. Having a conversation about one of those good happenings with a friend and she called me intense (in a good way) Normally I would look at this as a negative but I’ve learned that I am intense. Everything I do, I do with great intensity. It’s one of the things I’ve learned to love most about myself and am embracing. Especially with my journey in running 👌🏽🙌🏽

Am I doing this right? Hill repeats 😲 When I saw hill repeats on my schedule, I felt a little freaked out. The last time I ran hill repeats I was a high school cross country runner in the 90s. The workout: 1mi warm up, hill repeats .2mi long for miles 2-4, 1mi cool down. The attack was on the downhill. My marathon has some significant downhill, which sounds really awesome unless you aren’t prepared for it. So these workouts along with my addition of jumping rope are designed to get my legs in shape for attacking those downhills! This workout was actually fun and went by really quickly.  #hillrepeats #hillsforbreakfast

W8D7 5 hilly miles at a relaxed 8:16 pace. Closed out week 8 with 50 miles 💥I’ve never trained over 50 some mile weeks but this training plan I’m incorporating some 60+ weeks 💥💥 I feel my body changing and liking faster paces. I looked back to last cycle, in August I ran yesterday’s long run at 9:04 pace and wrote I felt really beat up. Nothing worth having comes easy ESPECIALLY in distance running! But my training suffered from a bad week, so I sucked it up, put on a movie, and put one foot in front of the other. 10 miles in my new kicks and my long runs are getting easier every week. Generally kept at a comfortable, 9:30 pace; my RBF’s hip started to bother her at mile 6, so we slowed down a bit after that to help alleviate it. 
Banking miles during LR’s these days always involve a mix of nervous anticipation and relief. Sometimes, I wonder, “will I ever get to run again WITHOUT aches or twinges? Or is this — and I hesitate to even *think* this — a new normal?” I honestly don’t know a clear or definite answer to that, but I DO know that I am MUCH more self-aware of my body and of how to take care of it, and as long as I am able, I will run my heart out, with gratitude, and continue to relish in amazement at the things it accomplishes every. single. day.

Another 5mi run after a particularly physically, mentally and emotionally rough 12 hour shift. I’ve taken care of a few of the same patients this week and I’ve learned so much about life. But no one prepares you properly for death. You do what you can to live exactly how you want to, doing the things that will make you the most happy (or try to anyway) but being on the side of patient care, you wish you could have known the life the person you’re taking care of, lived. All the amazing things they’ve done and accomplished. You build a relationship with these people and their families. This part in particular makes losing someone that much harder. Saturday’s are for long runs & naps, but Sunday’s are for a few shakeout miles & all the tasks! 🙌🏽 My main focus on Sundays is meal prep. 🥗 I plan our menu for the week-breakfast options, lunches for everyone & a plan for dinners. We spend around $21 a day (3 meals a day for 4 people-with voracious appetites). This year our goal is one dinner out a month.

“Each step takes me closer to my goal”🔥(Well...goals, not goal😉) Today those steps were all recovery run steps! 5.1 recovery miles @ 10:29 avg pace (11:01, 10:35, 10:31, 10:10, 10:07) Love these slow paced days because they gear my legs up for my week’s hard workouts! This week I’ve got: •speed work, •hill repeats, •tempo⛰🏃🏼‍♀️ among other runs and strength training😊I take FULL ADVANTAGE of my easy days so my hard days are higher quality. Take easy runs as seriously as you take your speed workouts! I got passed by a bunch of runners today but I couldn’t care less😂 I’m running for my own goals and am setting PR’s each season so I won’t speed these up anytime soon!🐢Ready to conquer week 4 of training!🦄
“Each step takes me closer to my goal”🔥(Well...goals, not goal😉) Today those steps were all recovery run steps! 5.1 recovery miles @ 10:29 avg pace (11:01, 10:35, 10:31, 10:10, 10:07) Love these slow paced days because they gear my legs up for my week’s hard workouts! This week I’ve got: •speed work, •hill repeats, •tempo⛰🏃🏼‍♀️ among other runs and strength training😊I take FULL ADVANTAGE of my easy days so my hard days are higher quality. Take easy runs as seriously as you take your speed workouts! I got passed by a bunch of runners today but I couldn’t care less😂 I’m running for my own goals and am setting PR’s each season so I won’t speed these up anytime soon!🐢Ready to conquer week 4 of training!🦄

It’s Sunday and people my hustle is on! 8 miles in the cool breeze with the sun on my face and Metallica in my ears. Such a great run where I got to clear my mind and just think about my feet hitting the asphalt. I am getting so excited for the LA Marathon in March. I think about it often and imagine my thoughts at miles 18 and 24. Those are the hardest miles for me where I have to dig deep and push through. I don’t hope that they are easy, I just hope for the strength to endure. Wishing it would be easy is futile. Having the grit to embrace the suck, that’s where the magic is. Being in the city convinced me that I have to run the @pghmarathon again this year. I’ve only missed it the years that I was pregnant. This run was the capstone of the week. The “breakthrough” run. My legs are exhausted and heavy from yesterday’s 10 miler... The run was: 2 mile warm-up, 5K at a target pace of 22:30-23:00, 2 mile cooldown. See the last picture for actual splits 🤗 
The warm-up and 1st mile of the 5K were absolute agony. I sounded like an ox heaving and stampeding on that treadmill. But by the time miles 2 and 3 rolled in, I found the fatigue melting into a manageable groove. The pain simmered. It was pretty incredible, and something I haven’t really experienced before. I’m really, really happy with how this final work out of the week turned out! .

I had a coach that once told me “Jo you can’t go out like a bull in a china shop, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Anybody else have this problem!?!?!So today a managed my patience with minutes. Keeping my self on the treadmill for a certain amount of time. I was also working the last 3 miles on a 3%down grade since my race is a 6% down grade. ... and I want my knees to be strong. Feeling pretty good about this... all I can think about is the kids I am running for and it further motivates me. Have a safe and happy running weekend! .

Thought about calling for a pick up multiple times but glad I pushed through. I stopped my watch at 15.18 cuz the wind drained me and then ran another .50 home. Shoulda let it go. Today’s run was a hilly course & I loved the challenge. As if the hills weren’t enough, we also had HIGH winds. Only makes you stronger, right? 🙌🏽 I can definitely tell my strength is still lacking, but my endurance is great. I didn’t feel winded but my quads & glutes were on fire! 🔥

This week has been hard but today I left it on the “course.” We ran up so many hills, accidentally annoyed some workers at a donut shop, and probably stopped one too many times (even if it was only twice), but it was a good day for 12 miles. The scenery was beautiful, and it’s always nice when the ice starts melting and the temperatures get a tiny bit warmer. After all, “What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness?” .

Easy paced half marathon on the treadmill this morning!🏃🏼‍♀️💥👊🏼I planned to do this outside but with black ice everywhere I figured I’d be safe and hit the treadmill again. No regrets either! This was very relaxed and even though I was staring at a wall and the back’s of people in front of me, it was a great run! At the moment, all my long runs are scheduled at my easy pace (10+ min/mile), so I started at 11:06 pace and ended at 9:59 pace. Negative splits😜happy weekend!

My choice of cross training is on the bike. 🚲 I’m currently setup on the trainer & the majority of my rides are done when my boys are asleep—but I am looking forward to taking it to the roads this spring! 🚴‍♀️

Tonight’s workout was supposed to be some bike sprint intervals-but because I’m short on sleep & have been exposed to the flu all week, I decided to just do a 40ish minute ride at a moderate pace. Between my long run tomorrow & playing yoga catch up—there was no need to push myself too hard tonight. 💨

I talk about making things happen/getting sh*t done a lot-but I hope that never comes off as I’ve got it all together. This week I’ve spent the majority of my time sitting on the couch holding babes. 🛋 My workouts are my only ‘me time’ most days & that’s the big reason they’re priority—they’re every bit for my mental well being as they are for my physical well being. Dusting or getting caught up on laundry doesn’t give me all those same endorphins. DO WHAT YOU CAN, WHEN YOU CAN. 👊🏽 And I can do the house stuff when we run out of undies or someone’s coming by. 🙌🏽 You feel me? 😘 Happy Friday, happy weekend! .

One thing I'm really loving about kickboxing is that sense of being a beginner. I've been running for so long now that, sure paces and races are new, but most of the day to day is not. This run needed to happen. For the first time, my body gave out before my mind did. I have been fighting the mental battle of training SO hard, and today I didn’t break down until the final mile. My mind game was “how about instead of stopping, you just slow the pace...” and it worked for the first 9 miles; in the past when I would have stopped to take a quick breather, today I kept moving, just slowing the pace when needed. When I finally stopped on the last mile, I was pissed at first; feeling like a failure. But I realized that my body is finally tired enough from training that it broke down before my mind did. There was NO point on this run where my mind said “wait no this is too hard, take a quick break.” So I call that a win. Plus, this was my first trail run in a LOOONG time, so it was nice to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery!🌤😎 It was so warm out today that I got to whip out my @roadrunnersports RGear singlet and shorts 👌🏼 Favorite running apparel ever!
