Chicken and waffles and NY strip sandwich from @fremontchicago in River North, Chicago
Needed to grab dinner nearby after watching a movie downtown, so we walked across the street and checked out Fremont. I've been here before for their AYCE mimosa brunch (great way to lose an afternoon), but not for dinner. Decent food (chicken and steak themselves were great; the sides--not so much), but the portions were enormous for the price, so there's good value there.

Their bohemian-inspired dishes are hearty, comforting, and well prepared. Not to mention, the craft cocktails are so tasty as well. Mmm...

Izzy eats another @eatbanza recipe - this one I made up myself: marinara with sautéed red onion, mushrooms & spinach. Topped with nutritional yeast. Yep, finally jumped on the “nooch” bandwagon. So why give nutritional yeast a try? It’s long been a staple for vegans because it’s a good source of B vitamins, including Vitamin B12. Vegans can have a hard time getting enough B12 since it’s found in animal products and a deficiency can lead to anemia. But since I’m not a vegan, the reason I gave it a try is because it gives you an umami flavor similar to Parmesan cheese, is low in calories and has no fat. (And it’s cheap! I found it @traderjoes for $2.99).
Finally there’s a place for vegans and meat eaters to agree on a Chicago restaurant. Here’s what’s in this loaded vegan burger from @originalkumascorner: 6oz Impossible Burger, Pretzel Bun (v), Cherry Tomato Jam, Avocado Mash, Cheddar (v), Roasted Garlic Mayo (v), Baby Arugula, and Red Onion.

Swanky music. A glass of red. And bolognese sauce to die for. All we are missing is the show at this theatre district restaurant- @petterinos_.
