Quality time with my girl is important! Teaching her about how her body needs proper nutrients and vitamins is important! Showing her that working out is about becoming healthy and strong and not skinny is so valuable! There are so many things that parents need to teach their children! Isn’t it overwhelming sometimes??? One thing I know for sure is that children learn from our example much more than from our words. And so when I heard Alexis ask when Daily Sunshine was going to be available in Canada because she wanted to drink a shake like mine every day and be healthy it made my heart smile!!

Let's have some #tummytime on this beautiful #tummylovethursday ! There are roughly 20 pounds in between these photos. I am thankfully starting to see definition under my skin and my waist actually coming in, but my skin is (to me) getting worse. Some of you all may have noticed the line that I have on the upper part of my stomach, which is sadly not abs but just how my skin has decided to fall. All of my stretch marks around my midsection look puffed out as if they are trying to reconnect themselves. My belly button area is getting longer and more deformed.... But you know what? I LOVE MYSELF AND THIS BODY I AM IN AND THE CHOICE THAT I MADE TO BECOME HEALTHY. I WILL CHOOSE THIS BODY AND THIS SKIN 1000 TIMES OVER THE HEALTH (PHYSICAL AND MENTAL) THAT I HAD BEFORE! Love yourself and have some tummy time with me!

Let's have some #tummytime  on this beautiful #tummylovethursday  ! There are roughly 20 pounds in between these photos. I am thankfully starting to see definition under my skin and my waist actually coming in, but my skin is (to me) getting worse. Some of you all may have noticed the line that I have on the upper part of my stomach, which is sadly not abs but just how my skin has decided to fall. All of my stretch marks around my midsection look puffed out as if they are trying to reconnect themselves. My belly button area is getting longer and more deformed.... But you know what? I LOVE MYSELF AND THIS BODY I AM IN AND THE CHOICE THAT I MADE TO BECOME HEALTHY. I WILL CHOOSE THIS BODY AND THIS SKIN 1000 TIMES OVER THE HEALTH (PHYSICAL AND MENTAL) THAT I HAD BEFORE! Many kids are getting an average of two servings of fruits and vegetables a day. One from 'potatoes' and the other from 'tomatoes.' I bet you're as shocked as I was when I heard this.
But I must say, I see a lot of progress happening too. 
I believe, as a society, we are fixing standards that have slipped over the past decades. YAY!

Yet, the most powerful fix happens at home 🏡.
At your kitchen table.
I know a lot of moms who want to feed their children better but feel stuck. Don't get overwhelmed by the changes, just start with one small tweak. Kids....as stubborn as they can be sometimes 😍....follow our lead. We can do this!

Really happy with that -- probably the only thing that went well today until after I got home. Work was awful today and traffic sucked majorly.

But being at home with family for the last 4 hours has been really therapeutic. Weaning is hard but slowly working.

Also I'm on day 22 (or so) of my 30 day no-weigh challenge because I was getting obsessive about weight. Since I've been doing well with meal plan, I'm excited and interested to see what my weight is.

But I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to weigh myself or not once the 30 days are over.  It might negate it all if I do. Thoughts?

How often do you weigh? Or do you weigh? What your rationale for or against it?

This morning I kissed these little faces, sent them on the bus, and then sat down to drink my coffee and do some work. And I was immediately smacked right in the goddamn face with some horrifying statistics. Statistics I should already KNOW, because once upon a time I was one of them. I’ve lived it, yet these statistics don’t cross my mind, because it’s not happening “right now”. What if I told you that the generation of these beautiful babies, and the generation of YOUR beautiful babies are going to have a shorter life expectancy than ALL OF US (their parents) - because of the foundation WE helped build for them? Because that is the cold, hard truth. 1 in 3 Americans are not just overweight, but they are obese. Which means there are more OBESE adults in this country than those who are just overweight. 
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve had people tell me about dieting and how they eat different food from their families. Y’all....... just because your kids are not overweight now doesn’t mean that years and years of eating those foods won’t make them that way. And furthermore, you try spend the first 10 years of your life eating mac & cheese and hot dogs and pop tarts and Lucky Charms, and then have someone suddenly tell you that you need to eat lean meat and veggies because you’re obese and pre-diabetic. Because these are very real life scenarios that children are facing right now, at an epidemic rate. 
And I’m not trying to sit here and be this preachy ass pretentious mom, telling you that your kids shouldn’t be eating this or that. Trust me - my kids eat their fair share of bullshit sometimes too. All I’m asking, ESPECIALLY if you struggle with your weight NOW as an adult..... to step back, look at your kids, look at what they’re eating and their activity level, and ask yourself if any of those behaviors and choices are things that contributed to YOUR struggles as an adult. 
I was a morbidly obese child, and I’ve been a morbidly obese adult. But now, more than ever, I need to keep my shit {{mostly}} together in order to be able to lead the way for these babies. Because they absolutely do NOT deserve to be statistics. 💛

Creating Healthy Habits for your Kids

Last week I had a client come to me and pose this question- “How can I encourage my kids to eat healthier and become more active?” With the obesity epidemic continuing to rise, as a parent you can help prevent your child from being another statistic. As a parent it is your responsibility to help your child develop healthy habits early in life that will bring lifelong benefits. You can inspire your kids to evaluate their food choices and also encourage them to participate in physical activity. Here are some tips get you started.

1) Be a good role model - You don’t have to be perfect all the time, but if kids see you trying to eat right and getting physically active, they’ll take notice of your efforts. You’ll send a message that good health is important to your family.
2) Keep things positive - Kid’s don’t like to hear what they can’t do, tell them what they can do instead. Keep it fun and positive. Celebrate successes and help children and teens develop a good self-image.
3)  Get the whole family moving - Plan times for everyone to get moving together. Take walks, ride bikes, go swimming, garden or just play hide-and-seek outside. Everyone will benefit from the exercise and the time together.
4)  Be realistic - Small steps and gradual changes can make a big difference in your health over time, so start small and build up slowly to create lasting behaviors. 
5) Limit screen time - These habits lead to a sedentary lifestyle and excessive snacking, which increase risks for obesity and cardiovascular disease. Limit screen time to 1 hour per day. (T.V., video games, computers)
6)  Encourage physical activities that they’ll really enjoy. Let your child experiment with different activities until they find something that they really love doing. They’ll stick with it longer if they love it. 
7) Pick exciting rewards - Don’t reward children with TV, video games, candy or snacks for a job well done. Find other ways to celebrate good behavior- like a family trip to the local zoo, a fun game of catch outside etc. ⬇️⬇️Continued in comments. ⬇️⬇️

Not often in public high school these days that kids take a break from books, lectures, and writing. But today my Spanish 2 students did yoga with me!!
.
They were soooo excited (and more than a little nervous) to get started. They even jumped the gun and went off the rails with their own crazy yoga flow because they were so HAPPY to be up and moving that they just couldn't wait to get started.
.
After the first few basic poses, they started to complain. They started to say that it was hard. They started to say their bodies were tired or their muscles were too tight.
.
They were so UNUSED to physical activity, or least this kind of physical activity, that they wanted to throw in the towel. Mind you: these are 14-17 year olds.
.
Some of them were probably making excuses because they wanted to sit down or just didn't feel like doing it. Teenagers, right??
.
But some of them were embarrassed. They couldn't do some of the yoga poses. And they wanted to quit when the going got tough and tougher.
.
But they were all so HAPPY at the end when we ALL did some sun salutations to round out the session.
.
It just goes to show that...
~it takes courage and excitement to get started
~it takes commitment to keep going when it's hard and you feel like you're letting yourself or others down
~best of all, it feels SO good when you finish and you're proud of yourself and everything you accomplished no matter what stumbling blocks you might hit along the way
.

They were so UNUSED to physical activity, or least this kind of physical activity, that they wanted to throw in the towel. Mind you: these are 14-17 year olds. . Some of them were probably making excuses because they wanted to sit down or just didn't feel like doing it. Teenagers, right?? . But some of them were embarrassed. They couldn't do some of the yoga poses. And they wanted to quit when the going got tough and tougher. . But they were all so HAPPY at the end when we ALL did some sun salutations to round out the session. . It just goes to show that... ~it takes courage and excitement to get started ~it takes commitment to keep going when it's hard and you feel like you're letting yourself or others down ~best of all, it feels SO good when you finish and you're proud of yourself and everything you accomplished no matter what stumbling blocks you might hit along the way . Obese parents with a laissez faire attitude towards their own weight perpetuate that in their children, and it’s becoming easier for these parents to hand their kids off to a surgical procedure.

It’s as if bariatric surgery is on a check list right below pills, potions, powdered drinks, packaged foods and every other quick-fix that didn’t work for them . . . or their kids.

I have had mothers, unsuccessful examples of their own bariatric procedures, candidly tell me they were waiting for their overweight teen to gain “just a little” more weight to meet a certain weight requirement in order to qualify for bariatric surgery! (Nothing like setting an example for one’s child, eh?)

#transformationtuesday : Lifetime addition! Photo one is of me at a very young (and unknown) age, already at an unhealthy weight for my height and age. The second is from my senior photos and I am unable to fit my entire body into the frame - I was most likely weighing around 230 at that time. The third picture is of me at 22 or 23 and roughly 270, trying to enjoy Universal, but had to LITERALLY have someone SQUEEZE me into rides. And the final photo is a few months ago, probably around 20 pounds heavier than I am now at roughly 180. More than just the weight an appearance changes, there are drastic changes in emotion and outlook on life between these photos, as well. And that, my friends, is my favorite part. 💛💪

Guys, I hated, *H-A-T-E-D*, Loathed, despised, Fitness growing up. I did. If you think of fitness and your eyes roll to the back of your head I FEEL YOU! I was in that boat.

The butterfly on that old shirt in this pic is so freakin' great of a metaphor though - you can CHANGE. You have to want your goal more than your excuses though. Change is uncomfortable. Change challenges us to our core. But you know what? It's SO WORTH IT!

This fitness loather turned fitness lover is walking talking proof you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G!

You wanna lose 100lbs? YOU CAN! You want to be financially free? YOU CAN! You wanna be a great example to your kids? YOU CAN! But you have to decide you want it, and that fer fek's sake, no matter what happens, no matter the bumps on the road, that you're going to stay the course!

The battle is MENTAL. You can overcome. it's a choice!

Best yet, you ain't gotta do it alone. I'll help you. That's what i do, I pay it forward! All you gotta do is DECIDE that, you know what? You're gonna say, "Today, right now, imma gonna message Amanda cause goddammit I'm tired of being tired!!!!
