It's the eve of Netflix's release of the most anticipated movie about the tragic history of Cambodia (First They Killed My Father). It'll be out at midnight pacific time, but I'll certainly be up to watch it at 3am in the eastern time zone. For I was also a child of war who witnessed these crimes against humanity towards our Khmer people. And only a handful of my family members survived this reign of terror and genocide. Maybe that's why until this day, my strongest negative emotions will always be resentment towards any and every piece of shit human beings I've encountered in life! #TBT#FirstTheyKilledMyFather#ChildrenOfWar#Refugees#GenocideSurvivor#Cambodian#Khmer#Khmerican
“Masum çocukların ölümüne ağlamayı bıraktığım gün, George Orwell’in de dediği gibi ‘Büyük Birader’in sevgisinden başka hiçbir sevgi var olmayacak.’ Elbette bundan daha iyisini başarabiliriz.” //
I weep sometimes, in despair, and I make no apologies for that. The day I stop weeping for the dead innocent children (in this case in Gaza) is the day when, to quote George Orwell, “There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother.” Surely, we can do better than this! Roger Waters ▪️

A true story about a girl named Saoussan and her family as they flee a war-torn Lebanon where bombs and gunshots were part of a daily life. Saoussan starts at a new school and confusion sets in with a new language and customs she isn't used to. In time, she not only adjusts but becomes the best at reading and spelling in her second grade class.
A very true look into what war-torn and immigrant children experience.
