I LOVE my Literature for School Age Children class! ❤️ It's too bad there are only 3 classes left. I've always loved reading as a kid, and as I've grown older, I started reading books more catered to my demographic over the years. But with this class, I've been going back and reading timeless children's classics. I found that re-reading these books as an adult has made me truly realize my appreciation for children's literature. I recently read Tuck Everlasting for my analysis and if there's one thing that hasn't changed in me, it's my love for romance! Apparently the hopeless romantic in me still lives. 😄 (Any recommendations, please shoot em at me!🙋🏻) #childrensbooks#childrensliterature#childrensclassics#bookworm#readers#timelessclassic#tuckeverlasting
The Cat At Night by Dahlov Ipcar. 😽 "The cat can see at night. The sky is dark and full of stars, but everything else is like day to him. He can see the dog sleeping in the doghouse and the doves asleep in the dovecote. But the cat does not feel like sleeping. Night is the best time of all - the time when he likes to go exploring." 🌛✨. We love this book so much, as we imagine our own kitties out and about exploring our rural coastal village in Nova Scotia on summer nights. The folky illustrations are timeless and allow the reader to explore through the eyes of a farm cat. Gorgeous colour and gentle, simple language has made this a much loved 'go-to' book on our book shelves. 📚. Published in 1969 by Doubleday & Company, then in 2008 by @islandportpress Islandport Press, Yarmouth Maine USA. #dahlovipcar#thecatatnight#maineartist#maineart#favoritebook#classicbooks#childrensbooks#beautifulbooks#bookillustrator#eastcoastart#doubledayandcompany#islandportpress#bookcollector
My mother @renaissancerenee has written a childrens illustration book!! It's a beautiful, moving and educational story that brings awareness to the very real threats facing Australian water wildlife, specifically the vulnerable Flatback Sea Turtles. A Pozible campaign is currently running to help my mum self publish this story.
Any donations/pledges/pre-orders are greatly appreciated - a $25 AUD pledge will get you a copy of the book plus 2 original artwork postcards!! Please help my mum make this dream of hers come true and please help us in educating the next generation in protecting our wildlife and our precious Earth ❤️.

Braved the heavy rain and a 22degree temperature drop just to see writer Jacqueline Woodson in person and hear her speak. It was so worth it! Not only did she sign the books we purchased but she gifted Avery with a book and signed it, which was an unexpected surprise! If you have not read Woodson ‘s books, please do. She writes for school age children, young adults and just published a novel for adults. If you’re looking for African American children’s books, like Woodson’s, check out Eye See Me in STL. They also have a website for online orders. Here’s my favorite quote from Woodson’s talk: “Children need mirrors and windows in their books. They need to see themselves reflected in the literature and have access to places they’ve never been.” Swipe left to see our bookstore haul!📚💫 #books#childrensbooks#reading#saturdayfun#familyfun#bookstore#blackbooks#blackstudies#blackchildren#education#blackgirlmagic#professorslife#professor#stl#stlouis#eyeseeme#mirrorsandwindows

Reading my books from a child's perspective, it is very easy to kid yourself that the mischief my boys get up to is all fun and games. Nights like tonight make me realise how my writing is a form of release though.
The beauty of writing means that you can exaggerate and embellish and tell people what you want them to hear. Kids often believe that everything that I write in the books really happens in our lives and my boys often play along with this.
It is like following an instagram or Facebook account where people only post the best bits. A clever filter hides the wrinkled forehead. An enticing caption makes everyone think your life must be full of happiness and excitement.
Tonight I am posting for all you mums and dads out there who have had a tough night. The ones who have been told they are the worst parent in the world. The ones who have been told 'I hate you'. The ones who have been pushed to tears as they question what they are doing wrong when all they do is try to put their children's happiness first and give them love.
Being a mum is wonderful but it is also tough a lot of the time, so for all of you out there who feel like you are at your wits end tonight, trust me you are not alone. Tomorrow is another day and we will wake up fresh, ready to face whatever the day throws at us, but tonight it's ok to feel like you're not ok.
And remember, the mum in It's A Kid's Life, who makes the best hot chocolate and marshmallows ever, is only human too, and when her sons are tucked up in bed asleep she will often sigh deeply into a glass of prosecco just like hundreds of other mums out there (only the kids won't get to read this bit😘)
One way I support reading at home is with a monthly themed basket. During the month of November, it includes a mix of books about the First Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims voyage, harvest time, Fall weather changes, and a few nonfiction books about Native American tribes. I love seeing how my son's interests change each year. This year he's interested in comparing and contrasting different Native American tribes. My littlest tot is just enjoying looking at the pics! I'd be interested to know how you adapt your #morningbasket to suit different age levels or just any fun ideas you have. #learningathome#livingeducation#readaloud#childrensbooks#charlottemason#kidsatwork#theimaginationspace
Exploring numbers at home with @getreadyforschoolaustralia is so easy. Numeracy is more than just number writing as you will see in the parent guide. This book however is a great tool for little learners like Vali from @sweetlittlestory who are just beginning to explore forming numerals. Did you know that each State has a different writing font? .
