It has been a hot minute since I've played anything even remotely Carnatic, but I thought I'd dust this one off for 15/100.
Nothing has done more for my sense of time than studying South Asian music. It can, at times, just be so complex that it forces you to completely change the way that you think about rhythm. This displacement exercise is one I learned from Sriji many years ago, with the notes borrowed from the first few alankaram to make it work on marimba. Also, this is a good excuse for me to actually work on my insides for once.
I also just realized that I added an extra beat of 16ths in the 5-variation. Apologies to any tala-keepers out there.
