This first episode of Philip K Dicks "Electric Dreams", titled 'The Hood Maker', (as shown above) is a fantastic introduction to the anthology series that is available now on Amazon Prime. It's full of the visual aesthetic that Dick's writing pioneered – which was then immortalised on screen by visionary directors like Ridley Scott in Blade Runner.
Set in a dystopian future where telepaths – derogatorily referred to as 'teeps' – have emerged in human society, the story starts with the Union on a knife-edge. With an 'anti-immunity' bill passed, and teeps being hired to work for the police force, the 'normals' are up in arms trying to defend their right to privacy. They see the teeps being officialised as an Orwellian nightmare, where the sanctity of their mind is no longer their own.
